Hello all!

I have recently come into possession of a Model 67-1, and it is most fine. However, the red front sight insert has some damage to it:

There's a fair sized dent that is an eyesore, and is somewhat distracting when looking down the sights.

So today, I decided to call the S&W factory to see about replacing the front sight insert. The boy who answered the phone acted dumbfounded when I told him that this is a fixed front sight. I had to explain to him several times that it did not have a roll-pinned front blade, which he repeatedly tried to sell me! I don't believe this young gentleman was very familiar with the older model revolvers, needless to say, and so I asked to speak with a technician. He refused to transfer me, and once I finally got through to him that a new front blade wouldn't fix the problem, he told me "we would have to charge $45 to evaluate the problem, turnaround would be 2-3 months, we don't have parts for obsolete guns" and things like that.

I was pretty surprised by the whole conversation, and not quite impressed. You'd think S&W would be able to handle something like this. Anyway, since the factory can't help me, does anyone know were I can send this revolver to have the front sight insert replaced? I will check with some local gunsmiths around here, but would prefer to send it to a respectable S&W gunsmith to make sure it is done right. I have neither the tools nor skills to do it myself, and would prefer an "experts touch" as it were.

If anyone could please help me out on this, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much everyone! :)

Cooldill,

I think you underestimate your ability to replace the insert. However it is easy job for a gunsmith in your area and will be much cheaper than sending it off.

We use to do it ourselves back when we packed revolvers on duty. I had one that we put a yellow insert on.

This one is an easy fix. Midway sells an epoxy type liquid that hardens into a new front sight insert. I'm pretty sure Mr. Potterfield even made a video on how to do it. Google something to the tune of "MidwayUSA replace front sight insert." You could do it yourself pretty easily, or pay a gunsmith to do it.

Edit: Here's the video.
