Front sight problem with new 336C

Got my 336C finally in 30-30. Most beautiful piece of wood I have seen on one. However, there seems to be a problem with the front sight. Not just the sight itself, but the whole base. It appears to be mounted ever so slightly off to the left of the barrel. I checked this gun out thoroughly at Cabela's to the point where the sales guy was getting annoyed. His problem not mine. I thought it was the hood because they usually have some side-to-side movement, so I removed it and the problem seemed to go away. It is very hard to detect and me and a good friend who is a gun expert, (really, he owns a small arms company) did not notice until last night. We had fired it the day I bought it and the elevation was fine, but it was hitting over 2" to the right at about 35 yards. Take that out to 100 yards and you are WAY off. We ran out of daylight to make any adjustments. Anyway, should I send it back to Marlin at the risk of having them exchange the whole rifle out for a lesser piece of wood or try fixing the sight? I'm afraid we will have to adjust the front and rear sights so much that it will be very noticable. This gun is perfect in every other way. We were able to punch holes at 35 yards. With a scope, I could probably get 1" groups at 100 yards with no problem. Although I don't want to scope it before I have hunted with open sights. It is just way off to the right.

Call Marlin and explain your dilemma. Tell them you would like to keep the wood this rifle possesses.
They just might repair this one, or swap the wood.

I have heard when gun companies have a return that is a result of a defect they will "upgrade" the wood to save face with the customer. That would be a bonus.
