Front Sight Removal-39A

I have a Marlin 39A, that I'm trying to swap front sights on. It's a standard 3/8 dovetail and I tried using a punch and mallet to drift it left to right, just like I did to remove the rear sight. Problem is, it's not going anywhere. I have some Kroil at home I'm going to try using tonight, but does anyone have any other suggestions?

It shouldn't be so tight a brass punch won't take it right off.

Be sure to support the barrel on something solid like an upended 4"x4" wood block or something though.

If the barrel moves when you hit the punch, the sight won't.

Support the barrel and the ramp. I learned that the hard way, by knocking a ramp off, stripping the screws.
