The front entry to the Military Gun Supply on East Loop 820 stands torn open after a car was used to smash it open early Tuesday. Hundreds of weapons may have been stolen.

Police and federal agents are investigating whether a burned sport utility vehicle containing what might be charred guns was involved in the break-in early Tuesday of a business in east Fort Worth that specializes in surplus military firearms.

The break-in occurred at Military Gun Supply at 3815 East Loop 820. An alarm was sounded at the business at 2:35 a.m., said Lt. Dean Sullivan, Fort Worth Police spokesman.

When officers arrived they found the front of the store smashed inward, probably the result of a vehicle driving into the front of the store, he said. Store employees have reported several weapons were taken, including "possible assault-type, high-powered rifles," Sullivan said.

A burned Chevrolet Suburban was found about two hours later in the 4200 block of Carey Road, about eight blocks south of the store, Sullivan said. He said the SUV contained what appeared to be weapons, but since they had been burned, police and federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives agents are checking to see if they match those taken from the store.

Carl Walker, ATF resident agent in charge, said that store employees were making an inventory of missing items to help complete the investigation.

"I'm concerned with any gun, whether it be a .22 or some fancy assault rifle, if it ends up in the hands of people who want to do violent crime," Walker said. "We intend to work as quickly and efficiently as possible to get these things recovered."

A man who appeared to be a store employee said that “some firearms” were stolen, but he declined to say how many.

“It was a smash and grab,” he said. “We are cooperating with authorities.”

The man declined to say anything more.

Evidence of the burglary was evident at the front of the business at East Loop 820 and Berry Street, north of the Tandy Leather Company.

One of four large decorative rocks in front of the store appeared to have been shoved into the window, which shattered, leaving broken glass on the sidewalk.

Security bars were pushed inward and the front door was askew.

The business carries surplus military weapons and other firearms, according to its Web site.

Crap. I was actually on my way down there right now to apply for a part time job. I guess I'll wait.

I sure hope they catch the rotten bastards. Its my favorite store, and they have nice employees.

Some dildos (for lack of better term) tried that down here two months ago, the truck they used got stuck in the cinder block wall. The owner didn't notice until he unlocked and walked into the store and saw the back half of a truck. They didn't get anything due to the truck being wedged in the hole.

An arsenal of them, no doubt.

No doubt indeed. This was a major hit.

I doubt they will sell them on line but everyone in the area needs to be aware. I hope that the store releases the serial numbers of the weapons so that people can report them.

Should be easy to find. Just read the 4473s that they filled out before they took the guns

Criminals stealing guns??!!?! I thought all criminals buy them from evil gun stores that Bloombeg has been harrassing.

If I look around hard enough, I'll probably be able to buy them back this weekend, from the trunk of a car up here in Camden:neener:

I've always wondered why they are located in that area anyway. Lots of gangsta type individuals for miles around. Hope the loss was insured and they can move on!

but the media forgot to mention,

and also the possibility of exploding tipped bulets were maybe taken as well.

If you have ever been there you might not doubt the arsenal comment. I think any National Guard arsenal would be done proud. High powered is also an understatement.

Harry Beckwith Guns sustained 35 robberies in 35 years and only lost 2 guns. The last time he was robbed 7 perps crashed his shop and one ended up dead. He basically spared the other 6 lives from his submachine gun because Harry was a nice guy.

Here's the story:

Yea that it one of my favorite shop. Just bought a sten mk3 kit and tannerite from em. Nice, helpful staff. Hope they catch the crooks.

if I remember correctly, this exact same thing happened to military gun supply about 5 years ago before they moved to the new building.

Latest report is that 'about a dozen' firearms have not been accounted for. There was a Suburban presumably used in the burglary found burning not too far from the store and reportedly there were some firearms left in it.

I imagine they'll have this wrapped up soon; the Ft. Worth PD is pretty efficient.

Regards,
Rabbit.

That's the weirdest 'high profile' theft conclusion (sorta) I've ever heard. They stage this brute-force theft and then they just burn the vehicle they used with their merchandise inside?! That sounds very, very fishy, from several different perspectives.

I don't think it's over.

Could they have caused damage to the vehicle that led to a fire? They did not seem to get very far.
