In San Antonio, two big box sporting goods stores have been looted of many guns soon after their opening. An Academy and Sportsmans Warehouse got hit. The former was an inside job IIRC and the latter, the crooks cut a hole in the roof.
WOW that is wher i bought my PT 145 and I was in there monday looking for my next purchase...They are very nice and helpfull staff. Yes they are in a very bad area. I also second the Vehicle damage beibg the cause of the fire. This store had no reason for anything else. I have NEVER been in that store when there wasnt atleast 2 other custumers in there to...always busy...
That's the weirdest 'high profile' theft conclusion (sorta) I've ever heard. They stage this brute-force theft and then they just burn the vehicle they used with their merchandise inside?! That sounds very, very fishy, from several different perspectives.
They didn't burn up all the guns, only a couple. It isn't completely unusual for loot to be left behind. There have been some armored car robberies where lots of money was left behind, sometimes because there was too much there to transfer to the next vehicle.
For all we know, the guns left in the fire might have been damaged before the fire or deemed undesirable, hence left behind.
Harry Beckwith Guns sustained 35 robberies in 35 years and only lost 2 guns. The last time he was robbed 7 perps crashed his shop and one ended up dead.
Actually, the article says he had 35 robberies and BURGLARIES and from what was described, almost all were burglaries. He only faced robbers 3 times.
Fox reported that the police were trying to determine if the two events were related, but I didn't see anything in the Albertson's robbery saying the bad guys were using rifles and rifles were what was stolen from the gun shop.
