I got a box of 100 .452 Hornady FTX (leverevolution) and a pound of Longshot to load bullets for my Rossi M92 Rifle with the 24" barrel. My rifle will cycle and chamber 454 casull's and supposedly shoot them but I have only shot 45 colt through it (its supposed to shoot both, supposedly) I am wanting to develop a Whitetail round with the 225 FTX's and Longshot powder gives good velocity without filling the brass plumb to the top. Do I still need to trim my rifle cases because my COL will be shorter than the Casull round, and actually will make less length in the leade. They were a gift for my birthday and had I known that they recommend that you trim your cases down (although it is not much) I probably would have gone a different direction. Any and all advice is appreciated, I do not have any other firearm that would shoot these rounds. I dont have a revolver and they wouldnt go in my 45acp or my 9mm. Just wondering or should I trim the cases down and just make like a 20 round box and reload them 5 times?
Thanks Alot:banghead:

Ok I handloaded 5, I didnt trim the cases back because the overall length wasnt that much longer than normall, you can see the difference but not a lot. In my leveraction rifle they cycle and function just fine with a COL of 1.683. Used the longshot powder and as little as I use per bullet 1lb is going to last a long time.

I'm not a big fan on Longshot in the .45 Colt because I think it's too slow a powder for that application. I would rather use HS-6 but that's just my preference. Please let us know how they shoot using Longshot.

Ok I used the FTX's without trimming the cases back, they ran perfect and shot great, I learned that my front sight post needs to be replaced because someone before me ground it off too much. They make ragged holes where the 255gr FPFMJ Freedom Munitions I used to make sure where I was shooting at made clean holes. The Freedom averaged 1087 and the handloads averaged 1160 FPS and shot real well. My average deviation on the handloads was 7fps while the average deviation on the freedom was 24fps. I am going to stay my coarse and continue to load to full length and use them as they are. Thnks:D
