If someone offered you the choice between a full blown customized S&W or a bare bones Korth what would you choose?

It's been a while since I've seen to talked to someone that bought a Korth. Then again, decked out full race guns typically loose a big chunk of their value when being resold. But there's probably more guys into race guns than Korth's so I'd take as decked out a S&W as possible and after I sold it, I'd pop my money down for a Springfield Professional. ;) Or a full house Ned Christiansen 9x23 Combat Commander.

I don't think you could make a S&W cost as much as a Korth if you tried. I mean even if you really put your mind to it, new barrel and cylinder, line-bored, custom rib and underlug, best-in-the-world action job, gold-plated, hand-engraved, hand-made anatomic grips, blah blah blah. After all that I bet it'd still be less than the Korth (which is like $4k, no?).

That may be true monster, but remember, at least two of us are saying we would sell the gun to buy something else. I've seen race guns go for 80-85% of their original cost. What sort of person wants to buy a used Korth? ;) I mean, it's not quite the same thing as buying a vintage 930 Turbo Porsche. Or a double rifle built in 1905. It's a brand new high dollar gun that is bought as a status symbol but you know that you bought it used and I doubt most folks egotistical enough to buy one, would want a used one. I doubt you could sell a used one for $2,000.

I would love to own a blued 4" S&W .44 Special, fully engraved, with custom walnut grips, with lots of "cleaning" by someone like Bowen. Or even the S&W PC. And I'll need a custom made, and engraved, holster & belt & ammo holders as well. ;)

Get the Smith and have it engraved--
Then you hold most of the value and it is truly a workofart---

The Korth is typical German. Just like the cars, the price overshadows everything else. The gun is not a bad piece, but it is not 10 times better than a Smith&Wesson. I have several Smith's that will shoot rings around anything you can show me from Korth.

This day and age, I would not buy anything form the darn krauts anyway.

Of course I'd take the Korth. I'd then shop it around at he local country club, hopefully I'd get some proctologist to make me an offer I couldn't refuse.

Definitely the Korth. I don't sell anything. If I need money, I go to work. So I don't care which one is worth more money or who would be impressed by it. I have a dozen or two S&Ws already. Why not give a Korth a test drive ?

I'm not much of a wheelgunner, so my opinion is probably moot.
However, all things (price, wear & tear, etc.) being equal, I'd probably go for the Korth because you don't see that many of them. A Korth, like a Mercedes Benz or Rolex is a status symbol, and something that's bound to get you some attention at the range.
