A recent new-hire to the company claims to hold an FFL (though where his store-front is has yet to be answered) and was offering to get us whatever guns we would like at cost (read: no markup). It sounds like a great deal and I've asked him to get me a price on a NRM Colt 1991A1.

Anyhow, he brought in a catalog (computer copy) of the Fulton Armory catalog and I got to browsing. I wasn't too keen on the idea of an AR15, but they do have M14's and M1 Carbines, as well. And considering the serious price cut when there's no middleman's markup, I might just get one of each.

My question: Is Fulton Armory building a good product or just re-marking some philipino junk? I've heard the name, but I don't have any experience with battle rifles, AR's and the like. If the guy comes through, I'll be one heck of a happy camper.

Fulton Armory

Fulton Armory makes some damn fine rifles. Good Arfs and Great M1A's. Service and services are top notch. :D

OTOH, try the Search feature for "Fulton Armory" combined with "Steve Smith." You might also try " "Fulton Armory" AND problem," and some other combinations. There are occasional reasons a person might not want to be more specific.

Also, Sven (Moderator) once mentioned that FA is not well considered among competitive shooters, who then boycott all FA threads. If this possibility concerns you, then you might be happier with a rifle that's a little less controversial. I decided against FA after some pretty intensive research, including links to other sites, problems, concerns, including, IIRC, some pretty serious quality issues made by a former employee. YMMV.

Edited to add a link to one of my favorite FA threads, in that it helps explain the "tip-toe" approach taken by some of our un-named moderators. :D Here.

HUH?

Thats pretty good if you can get it at cost as not alot of folks get to do that unless you like alot of others get to know someone with a ffl or so.

Fulton armory since you ask I will only pose a few answwers and questions.

FIRST of all I have bought things from Clint years ago and never had a problem and service was fast and reliable but was only buying parts but supect buying a rifle was going to be the same and have never heard other wise.

He has built quite a few very nice garands and M1a's over the years and that is what he has grown the reputation for and I do not think I have ever seen a bad rifle of those he ever built personaly.

Now as far as Ar15's he dropped his prices about 2 years ago and he offers alot of standard features loaded on his rifles.

What rifle are you looking at buying?

What are you planning on doing with it?

Are you just wanting a good rifle or do you plan on shooting matches with it?

If you are wanting a acurate rifle that can compete in matches then a ar15 is about the only way to go these days unfortunatly ( l like the m1a's ).

If it is a ar15 you seek then look at the prices, I have not looked at Fultons prices lately but you will have a good ideal after you shop around.

Bushmaster offers their NM rifle threw the cmp for like $875 and I think armalite is around $100 more.
Rock river arms dealer cost is right at the bushmaster price as above.

Their are alot of nice match uppers on the used market boards as alot of folks are buying them. I even saw a fulton armory upper for $490 last night on one board and I would guess thats about half of what he wants for one at least.

He does not offer anything more than you can get from some others with a AR15 like frpm CLE or White oak precision and their prices are better.

Now do you need a ar15 thats better than everyone elses and his ads are very convincing aren't they!

Lets look at the last few years at the national championships and see what has been the big winner.

Harry won the Leg match in 2001 I believe with a Armalite stock national match rifle he got only two weeks before the match and thats the same one you can get threw the cmp.

John won the high cilvilian in service rifle with one of his rifles for the complete NRA week (I shoot his rifles myself).

Shawn did what I think last year is something that should be remembered for a long time. He took a rock river upper the same as you can buy and he picked it up from rock river two days before the start of camp perry and had not shot it before and sighted it in during the first match which is the Presidents 100 and took 3rd in the match with a brand new upper and then also won high civilian service rifle shooter same as John the year before in the nra week with the same stock wilson barreled rock river nm rifle.

Now as you already most likely know you can get that same upper from them for $525 dealer price and the lowers are $240 if bought seperately.

Lets see thats $765 for a rifle that can win the national title.

Is Clint's prices lower than that? if it is I should call him myself and get one.
But those ads in shotgun news and other places are expensive I know so I really do not blame him for wanting to make money. But it does not take a rocket scientist to put a good ar together this days either.

Bottom line shop before you buy and look around and compare prices as if your buddy is a ffl holder then he can get you cost from anyplace else also.

Fulton Armory is no more than 10 minutes drive from where I sit typing this. They did me a good deal on my M1 Carbine re-build, and their own NIB M1 Carbine has been rated by at least one survey as the best available on the market today, of any era.

Clint was a nice guy, and good to deal with, I have no complaints other than the fact that I couldn't buy 30 round mags from them, I had to travel up into PA to pick some up. These laws are pathetic.

The price you see in Fultons price list is the price you pay, dealer or not. So don't expect any deep discounts. I suggest you shop around.

I was trying to be nice.

But they did not get the nick name fool-em armory for nothing.

I do not like them because of the things they said about a good friend of some of us on another site and that was a big reason the site went down.

what is it they call those sight things Pillers of hecules or something like that. wonder where they got that ideal. do they still lock tite the float tube on or have they learn how to put it on without lock tite yet.

great work for somebody who never shot a match before.

Sorry I really ment everything I said in the above post instead

A recent new-hire to the company claims to hold an FFL (though where his store-front is has yet to be answered) and was offering to get us whatever guns we would like at cost (read: no markup).
An FFL need not have a store front in my state. I'm really not sure what the implication is in this post.

look elsewhere, even if you have to pay a little mopre to get what you want. it'll be worth the trouble so as to not give FA a dime of your money. this really IS a company that does NOT have our interests at heart.

again do the searches mentioned above.......

I certainly appreciate the head's up, gents. From my standpoint, I really don't want an AR simply because the round is rather weak, imho. I wouldn't mind something in the new 6.8mm Rem SPC, but that's down the road a bit.

I can't see well past 100yds, so comps are out. I guess it would have to be something for 3.gun or just to say I have it.

An M14? That's just a plain beauty of a rifle. I don't know thing one about battle rifles, but it's a box-fed .308 and has a wood stock!!

I'll definitely do some research on the matter before suggesting my coworkers go with the FA.

As to my earlier implication of dishonesty, I've been told, and could be wrong, that in SC you have to have a physical storefront location before you can get an FFL. It was because of this that I automatically assumed there was a lie in the mix somewhere.

That, and the idea that he can get me a complete FA AR15 for around $400. Does that sound too good to be true?

I should know more tomorrow as he promised to try and bring the info on the Colt pistols I was looking for. If that's a good price, and the model I'm looking for, I'm in for a few more pistols and rifles and shotguns....

RBL.
