Fun Customizing Heritage Rough Riders

Thank you so much for posting!! We need more of these threads, IMO. Threads with experience and knowledge.

The alternative are popular opinion threads like “Who makes the best gun?” which usually results in 10 pages of stupid.

Thanks, they were both fun project guns and with the popularity of the models I felt others might like to see what was possible to do with them.

Not my sort of thing, really. But I like the way the look and admire your skill in getting them that way. Enjoy !

Thanks! It was a very fun project that put together all sorts of little bits of knowledge I found about the rough riders scattered about the internet.

was thinking about a birds head grip frame and set of grips just to try it, then I looked at the current price of the things and might just buy another one.

The birds head grips are great, but I found they worked best on the short barrel. When I tossed them on the 6.5" barrel the gun felt very front heavy and it was hard to maintain a good grip. So if you are gonna give them a go I would recommend them for models with less than a 4" barrel.

Great projects! I have 3 (or4) Heritage revolvers and really like the idea of modifying one or 2 of them from 6 to 9 shot. What parts did you replace to do the conversion?

I’m still waiting for Heritage to come out with a 9 shot break top revolver.

As much as I dislike zinc alloy guns, that might be just enough enticement for me to consider buying one.

I’d like a H&R 999 Sportsman, but their prices are off the charts.

You will not be disappointed with a H&R sportsmen 999. Mine is very accurate with a nice trigger. If you ever get one I recommend pairing it with a speedloader. Combing a speed loader with a Break action revolver is a lot of fun.

That jump from 6 rounds to 9 is very sweet. I did the same upgrade to my 16" rough riders after I added a stock. So now I have a very nice 9 show .22 wmr revolver carbine. Just gotta figure out a good foregrip solution.....
Are you sure you can convert a pistol to a rifle without crossing the line into felony territory? You might want to look into it to assure that you stay within Uncle Sam’s rules.
