Feel kinda like "Burt" in the Tremors movie when he ran out of ammo -"This has never happened to me before...". My little "fun money" savings account has over a thousand dollars in it and for the first time in 20 years not one handgun, rifle, or shotgun is really calling my name :(

S/W ticked me off earlier so they are off the list. Looked at some Springfield Armory guns, but visiting that section of the 1911 forum seems even their biggest fans are griping about current quality control. Thought about Beretta but on that forum a lot of the talk seems to be about the company cutting corners on the gun with polymer parts and bad customer service. Used to play with Glocks a lot, but thier recent escapades and the fact the newer finger groove models don't fit me well leave them out as well. Looked at Kimber but again most of what I heard was how good the old ones are compared to the new ones... Judging the risk of "buying somebody else's problem" with a used gun (especially a new style to me I would not know how to really check out), looks like my moneys just gonna sit for awhile.

Suppose the question would be, am I just hitting a dry spell personally? or is anybody else just getting the feeling that for what we're paying for these things we should be getting a little more quality control, dollar value, and customer service wise and closing up the wallet in response???

Why not have some fun with older guns? There are plenty of lovely weapons available, and you might fall in love again! For example, try here for some interesting stuff - and he'll help you to import it... :D

Just keep it building until you find that "one" you gotta have. SHOT is only 6 months away and surely there'll be something new for 2004 you'll want.

With the exception of S&W, I would take the other alleged problems with a grain of salt.
All of us are guilty of complaining that the new guns arn't as good as the old ones. "They just don't make them like they used to." How many of us have heard or said that.
The truth is, all gun makers are trying to cut costs and sell more. All of them.

I would suggust you leave your fun money at home, except for a token ammount for lunch and ammo or accessories, turn off the computer and make the rounds of the gun shops. Pick up and examine the Kimbers, Springfields, and any other guns you are interested in. Look them over.
I'll bet you find they are not as bad as most people make out.

Personally I never take others complaints about a particular gun style seriously until I look at them myself.

For example the 1911 design. I have read over and over how they are jam~o~matics. This is of course bull excreetment, but if you listen to the detractors of the this design then they are extinct, over the hill, garbage.

Forget peoples comments on the internet. Go check out the guns yourself.

Frankly I'm amazed it took as long as it did to get that response Quartus :D

Thanks all, especially liked J Millers thoughts.

What about a Browning Hi Power or cz75?
How about a Kahr pistol or a Smith model 66 revolver?
Or a new rollmarked Colt?
Come on guy there are plenty of things out there to want you are just not trying hard enough.
ps. My SW 1911 is perfect. I have shot it a bunch. It has a very low serial number.

Buy a 50bmg upper.
or a Kel Tec p32, or
one of each Saiga 12ga and 20 ga.

sorry that's MY list.

Well, do you have a SAFE?

Maybe take the money and send out one of your 1911's or Browning HP's or S&W Revolvers (pre-agreement) and have it customized!

Wish I had your problems, wanna trade?

Sounds like you could use that money for a weekend trip to one of the big firearms schools.

Alternately you could spend it on something really nice for your wife. I think they like vacuum cleaners and irons and such. ^_^

Very few current production guns are of much interest to me, but there are plenty of good old guns that need good homes. They can be hard to find, and bringing them up to top condition can be bothersome and/or expensive, but on the whole, they're well worth it.

How about some training?

Sounds like enough for a vacation to Frontsight, Gunsight or Thunder Ranch. Maybe an LFI course...or Gabe Suarez (sp?)

How about a nice progressive reloading press?

You could take up blackpowder shooting, it's really fun.

How about a training class? New accessories for the guns you already have? Had a hankering for a .50 AE Desert Eagle? :p

Or of course, you could always wait, and keep letting it grow. That's probably the smartest thing to do. ;)

Hey, I'm good at helping other people spend their money (just ask my husband).

I'd second Snake Eyes' suggestion of getting some training. Taking a shooting class is more fun than the uninitiated can imagine, and learning how to better use the tools you've already got is a very worthwhile endeavor.

If that doesn't tickle your fancy, may I suggest finding some needy-and-deserving young person (such as a niece, nephew, son, daughter, grandchild, godchild or friend's child), and getting them started in the shooting sports. Purchase yourself a little .22 Chipmunk rifle, a brick of ammo, and eye and ear protection in child sizes, and make a kid's day. If the kid is truly interested and truly deserving, gift them with the gun ...

Hey!

Give it to the NRA! I'm sure they will spend it responsibly!

Like the NRA VISA card application I got in the mail! :fire: :fire: :scrutiny:

I also ebb & flow with gun interests.I am not a hunter, but have decided to shoot a pig.(I live in Texas.)One of the guys I go to church with gave me some sausage ,(wild pig ) and I COULD NOT BELIEVE how good it was.
