So, what's your favorite gun related holiday story? Here's mine:

I was 11 years old. For the 4 years prior I had begged and pleaded with my parents for a .22 rifle. Each year I woke up to sweaters and rc cars. Not bad toys, but definitely not the rifle I pined after. Soooo, on this particular year i had woken up and ran to the tree. More sweaters, but no rc cars? I started digging through all my siblings presents (11 year olds are a bit anxious ;) ) but alas, nothing that even appeared to be a rifle. When all the presents were opened and my family was settling down, my dad walked in with a small box that i thought was a box of life-savers.

He hands it to me and everyone else got quiet, looking at the box. I slowly unwrapped the mystery box and it was a 550 round box of .22??? I looked at my dad, who had a devlish smile, and i asked him why i got a bunch of bullets when I don't have a rifle? He brought his hands around from behind his back holding a brand new marlin .22!!! That was the happiest point of my life at the time, because my parents finally trusted me to have my own rifle. (The Marlin was the $99 wal mart special, but to a boy that age it was my pride and joy)

The funniest part of the story is that my mom had explicity told my dad not to buy it, he was just too caught up in the holiday spirit to listen :D

My parents are currently overseas serving a mission for their church, but when they return in the fall of 2008 I will have a Ruger Single Six waiting to put under the tree. My dad has always wanted one, but he would rather spend money on his kids than on himself. I'm happy that I can finally afford to buy him a "present to be remembered".

Nice.

I got a Mossberg 500 20g for X-Mas when I was 12. That's the only time I was ever given a gun as a present. Still have it, of course. I had been asking for a shotgun for the previous year, and Dad came through. :D

Never a firearm for Christmas, but I did get a box of chocolates shaped and wrapped to look like shotgun shells. They were a hoot! Very non-PC, and I had a blast (pun intended) offering them to colleagues at the large research university I worked for.

Some years back, I was able to get my dad a Ruger in .30 carbine. He's not able to shoot it now, (arthritis), but he was sure able to enjoy it for some years.

Last year, I bought a K31 for myself in early December. My daughters had not seen it so we slipped it out for Christmas day as "Santa brought daddy a rifle". This year, my nine year old said "maybe Santa will bring you another rifle this year".
She doesn't know it yet but I got her a Red Ryder BB gun.

PS I bought a Winchester Model 61 for this years Christmas gun but they've seen that already.

It's so true. I once got a 12 gauge Mossberg 88 for Christmas. Beautiful.

Unfortunately I never got/get a gun for Christmas. My wife got a .45 from her dad for Christmas a few year ago.

ok, i got my 22 when i was about 14, at christmas, i had been waiting a long time on it, i had a bb gun but i wanted the real thing, it finally came. A winchester auto. I was in heaven. This year, my youngest son gets his first rifle of his own, a henry lever action 22. I hope he likes it.

I had saved forever to buy a .243 for my first deer rifle, but when you're 9 you don't have much income. My dad finally pitched in (probably most of the cost) and I got a Savage bolt action. I've shot countless deer with it. I returned the favor when I was 19 and bought my dad a .30-06 for Christmas and he shoots it exclusively now. My .243 has been partly retired now, but I'll never sell it.

my dad got me a 10/22 for a christmas/birthday present when i was 18. thats the problem with having a birthday in january, everyone does combo presents *sigh*
i get my mom back though 'cause her birthday is on the same day/week as mothers day. *evil grin*

I got my first .22 at christmas, but I was behind the curve. My dad could not afford one when I was 10 like the rest of the boys when they got their rifles. On my 11 yo christmas however dad started a new job and bought me a Ruger MKI. I still have it, must have close to 80,000 through her. Only gun he ever gave me. Bought him a new one for christmas this year, MKIII target. Maybe I will take dad and the guys afield this year while the girls run to exchange what we got them for stuff they want.:D

It's pretty cool to hear about you're guy's Holiday stories. I have one more to add, and it deals with receiving a gun from an anti :)

The year I turned 22, I had been married for three years. My wife (who before we met was a rabid Democrat and didn't get the whole "2A thing") was the only person who got me a present that year. I had mentioned that i wanted a rifle in a mil surp caliber (saiga 762 to be specific). up until that christmas she basically had the mind set that guns are to kill people. I took the few months prior to educate her on the many uses of guns (killing animals, target shooting, the fun factor, etc). This christmas wasn't a huge surprize, but it was pretty memorable in the fact that my wife used her money to buy me a saiga! Her mom and dad just about fell over when they heard the news, but the week after christmas I got to take my wife shooting and we pulverized several cheap targets (miniature santas, etc). To this date, my wife has bought me a saiga, an xd9 and for this christmas she got me 3 hi-cap mags. Pretty good considering 5 years ago she wouldn't want to buy a water gun :D

When I was 7 I ahd already been my dads bird dog for several years. I used to loving shooting and hunting, still do. That year my grandpa decided it was time for me to have a pellet gun. He asked the permission of my parents and they both said yes. So Christmas morning rolled aroud and the last present under the tree was this long bow for me from grandpa. I opened it up with mom dad and grandpa standing over me. When I got the box completly open I shout my first real shotgun. My moms jaw nearly hit the floor as she looked at her dad like what have you done. My dad on the other hand I think was more excited than I. We went out that after and tested it on some cans. It may have been the best Christmas to date. This year however I am giving my first center fire rifle to my 10 year daughter. So it should be pretty neat as well. Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays.

Good story. Getting guns as gifts and converting antis. Two birds with one stone on that post. Nice.

Yeah... I remember the Christmas I was nine years old... I'd been looking at Sears&Roebucks SxS .410's. I'd been wanting one and my parents knew it. $79.99, IIRC, back in the early '80's. I asked Santa Claus for one... I'm still mad at him.:neener:

For a kind of Christmas/Birthday present. I had been shooting one of my mom's guns for as long as I could remember. It was a .410 sxs J.C. Higgins made by Savage. About the time of my 13th Christmas, my mom gave it to me for Christmas/Birthday present. I've probably fired 2-3k rounds through it, but .410's a little pricey for a plinker, so it's been retired to primary dove gun and safe queen the rest of the year.

It'll never go anywhere, partly because my mom passed away in 2000 and my older brother got almost all of the guns, and that my mom gave it to me make sure that it always has a home.

This year is going to be kinda special for my nephew. My brother in law's boy. His ex-wife isn't exactly anti-gun, but she doesn't care for guns and doesn't want the b-i-l to buy any for her baby. But I figure the boy's 7 years old now so I called my brother in law and asked him if it would be ok to get him a nice pellet rifle. So off to sprawlmart the wife and I went. The big family Christmas is tomorrow and he's getting a Daisy 880S IIRC. It's been a few days since I wrapped it up. Not doing it to po the mom, but my daughter's only 4 and she already has her own pellet gun and he enjoys shooting it as well as the crackshot and .410 when we go out to the range.

Last year, my son got his first firearm, a .22 boltgun. The fun part, was that we hid hints all around the house in the form of little notes. Some were even outside. Cryptic stuff. And each note was just a clue to the location of the next one. Like, "The four round ones get you there." (note on the steering wheel of the truck) And that note said "I build strength and power" which pointed him to yet another note stuck to my weight bench. Ect.... About 10 deep. The last hint pointed him to the box cleverly hidden under the couch. The Savage Box.

Never seen a kid so happily frustrated.

Hahah, man, we're evil.

One year when I was about 10, I wanted a Red Ryder BB gun but everyone kept telling me that I'd shoot my eye out. Well, when I got to tell Santa what I wanted, I froze and told him I wanted a football. So I climbed back up the slide and told him I wanted the BB gun but he too told me I'd shoot my eye out and kicked me back down the slide.

Christmas morning came and I got some lame clothes and this REALLY lame pair or pajamas. I thought I was out of luck when my dad pulls this box out from behind a chair. It was a Red Ryder BB gun!!! I was so happy!!!

So after I cleaned all the cosmoline off, I went out into the yard to shoot it, and the first shot ricochets off of a rock and comes back and hits me in the eye and knocks my glasses off. At first I thought I shot my eye out but then i realized that my glasses fell off. When I was looking for my glasses I stepped on them and broke them. I had to make up a story to tell my mom because if she knew what really happened she'd take my gun, so I told her a big icicle fell on me and broke my glasses. She fell for it and I got to keep my Red Ryder, carbine action, two-hundred shot range model air rifle!

it was a Christmas that I'll remember forever!

I got divorced for Christmas. How does this relate to guns, you might ask?

I spent $11k on guns, ammo, parts, NFA taxes, etc. It's nice to spend my own money.

Put down the "Christmas Story" box and step away from the vcr.:)

I never got much gun stuff for Christmas growing up, my dad was too busy buying hunting rifles and drinking. He did give me a .22 bolt action rifle when I was 10 but it was a piece of crap and has since been chopped up. It is sad that someone who's life revolved so much around guns never felt the need to share that with his son. I walked the earth with my grandpa's rifles until I could buy my own and they are the one's I now own and cherish.

I buy my own gun stuff for Christmas, always have. As far as guns go, this year my wife bought me my birthyear(75) AK parts kit and I bought her a likenewused Chinese SKS. My mom is getting stuff for her .410 and my 7yo daughter is getting her first .22 bolt action Marlin 915y. Oh and my uncle and cousins are all getting ammo, but they have to come shooting with me to get it;).

Way back in the day, when I was 8 years old, I got an Ithaca single shot 22, I still have it to this day. I remember that day vividly and when I first got to shoot that little rifle, man it was fun. That was an awesome time, me and my dad, teaching me the in's and out's of shooting, safety first!:D

When I was 18 and Christmas came around, I got a Remington 870 express 20
gauge shotgun, that was cool.:D

When I was 21 and Christmas came around, I got a Ruger 22/45, that was sweeeeeeeet.:D I remember seeing the big yellow ruger box and my face just lit up into a huge grin, and it was stainless to boot!:D

I've got an awesome dad.
