My parents are in there mid 60's and travel to visit their grandkids.
They finally took the class and are waiting to get fingerprinted.
My mom is excited and wants to shoot all my smaller handguns and see what she wants to buy.
She is deadly with a rifle. But her Dad didn't teach her to shoot handguns.
My dad was a monster in his day and had finally decided a pistol is a good idea for protection.

That's excellent news! Every older / starting to get older persons should have a pistol permit IMHO.

Unless a continuing physically active person, weights, stretches, some type of martial arts etc., everyone slows down. Reaction time, stamina, and add ANY medical condition, those things mentioned ^^ don't get better.

And some folk just don't realize, or want to admit, the amount of evil out there.

Obviously, some do and your folks have joined the crew:)

Give one of them a membership in the NRA, and the other a membership in SAF. The mail they will receive will reinforce their decision periodically.
My Dad is a life member already.
They make the 1200 mile trip and visit for a month. My contribution will be as much 22, 380, and 38 special as they are willing to shoot.

Agree..If one can afford the process, I don't think it's a bad thing. If not a CCW, at least something for HD...BUT training is key, knowledge is king, ignorance isn't 'bliss'...
The level of crime in the county they live in rivals Mayberry. They want to have it for when they travel.
Ignorance is bliss until reality slaps you in the face.

Good for them! I did the same thing for the same reasons.

Unfortunately in todays environment we are no longer isolated "in the country"!

Not to start a political discussion but: BLM have stated they are coming to the "country" to "kill white people"!

We are a L/E and military family living in the country away from most criminal activity.

Since the BLM assaults, my wife has decided she wants her own protection and we have been going to the range for practice every week. She has become proficient with "her" revolver "her" Semi-auto and has now claimed "her" 9mm AR carbine! She feels empowered and much safer at a young "73" year old!

The key to successfully training all ages and "sexes" is to tailor the training to their specific needs. I specialize in "one on one" training women so the focus is on them and their needs!

Smiles,

My wife and I are "older persons," but we're kinda different. Our oldest daughter and her then fiancé (now husband) took the Idaho "Enhanced" Concealed Carry Class back in the winter of 2018. Upon their recommendations, my wife and I took the class last summer (2019).
However, my wife and I already had Idaho "Standard" Concealed Carry Licenses, and besides - Idaho is a Constitutional Carry state now. We took the "Enhanced" Class because Idaho "Enhanced" CCW Licenses provide for legal concealed carry on Idaho's university and college campuses - my wife and I still have ties with ISU and end up on campus there every once in a while.
The fact that Idaho "Enhanced" CCW Licenses have reciprocity with a few more states than the "standard" versions is nice too. But my wife and I are "older persons," and seeing as how not even our "Enhanced" CCW Licenses are good in California, we probably won't be going there.;)

Understand completely..so is the burg I live in BUT, I CCW everyday, all day...

OP:
Your folks can probably do well with handgun tng. as long as their coordination is good with little arthritis etc.

I’m also 64/65 and began Krav Maga self-defense classes about seven months ago. Never had more than a few light boxing lessons in the past.

Maybe the point here (age) is obvious.

They would have to drive over 100 miles to find classes like that.
They are in the Keweenaw Peninsula of Michigan. There is literally nothing there.
