Hey guys, I was going to the shooting range tomorrow. Generally my friends and I always try set up little games or competitions. I was wondering what everyone else here does for fun when shooting with their friends. Maybe I can pick something up from one of you that I haven't tried before.

Some of the different things we've done include playing tic tac toe, playing pool(print out a jumbled group of billiard balls and see who can hit stripes or solids out first), playing cricket on printed dart boards, and your run of the mill timed or long range bullseye competitions.

One of the games my sons and I enjoy is to hang a bowling pin(or a piece of 4x4, sand filled liter bottle, etc) from a Shepherds Hook with a length of cord. With a variety of guns, one must shoot X number of rounds(usually a mag or cylinder) within a set amount of time. Hits and misses are easy to see. The first shot is generally a gimme, but in order to shoot the remaining rounds within the allotted time, one must shoot at the pin while it is still swinging from the last hit. Misses are 0, hits are 1 and shooting the cord and making the pin fall is -2.

Those are some fun ideas Sublime, we will have to try some of those. Me and my buddies just do a double-tap drill and see which one of us has the tighter grouping lol.

Every outdoor range i have ever been to has empty 12 gauge hulls everywhere. I really enjoy lining them up at various distances and then plinking. When you hit the primer they really take off flying even with .22! Free and fun plinking!

I like to shoot at 50 yards
Here is my friend's daughter in competition with her father. The target is the small white steel plate. The loser has to do some house chores.:D

I made some spinners and they have a top and bottom target. two spinners per rack.
One shoots at the top and make it spin. The other guy tries to shoot the bottom and tries to spin the other way. You must have the same amount of rounds. The winner is the guy who has it spinning the way he needs it to when there is no more rounds to fire. You have to time it just right and you can win.
It is easy to go threw a brick of 22's doing this.
It works well with a rifle or pistol.
I also have 6 wooden racks that has 10 small holes drilled in them.
We put suckers in the holes, and we try to shoot all the suckers before the other one shoots all his. It is like a old fashion turkey shoot.
My favorite is a 4x4 board 5 feet long with a slit cut in it.(circular saw, about 1/4 inch deep) put twenty crackers in the slit. 10 on one side and 10 on the other. two people with 22's. Ready set SHOOT!
You don't have to clean up after sucker and crackers.
Very easy to make and very little cost.

We just like long range shooting with handguns. A hundred yards or so. Maybe a little more or less.
We shoot whatever for calibers. Seems simple but its fun.
Clay pigeons are not easy to see at long distances.
W will also shoot .22 rifles with iron sights at long distances.

Okay LOVE the ideas here and I think we should keep these ideas going!

We started a new idea today with this target. First off was 6 seconds to shoot six shots at the target 1 hit =1 point. 1 miss = 0. 1 hit when aiming at the wrong target = -1. We did left vertical first then right.

Lately we've been going for timed events short range only because we can all bullseye shoot like champs up to 35 yards. For us timed shooting has been a hardship lately only because we all shoot way before the timer, one of those shoot thinking time means more than it does(if this makes any sense to anyone).

Roundup trees are a lot of fun. Also a simple piece of steel I-beam makes a great improvised target at 50 yards for a little friendly competition.

We used to see who could set off Tannerite first, but alas...Knob Creek doesn't allow it.

My GF is a better shot than I am with my Garand...at 330 yards...standing.

Clay pigeons at 50 yards, baloons or an 8 in gong at 100 yards. Handgun, standing.

me and my friends like to glue bottle caps to string and tie them up. we shoot them at about 20 yards with iron sights. it's really difficult and it's a fun competition to see who can hit it first.

with 22 pistols toss a golf ball about 10 meters out (all pistols have same number of rounds) the first person shoots until he/she his the ball (or runs out of ammo end of game for that person) then the next person shoots until the golf ball is hit and the next person until only one person has ammo left who is the winner the ball gets farther and father as the game continues or onr can use 22 rifles for longer range varyation of the same game
