Was wondering if anyone does friendly fun competitions on the forum. Honor system of course, but was thinking about the Hickok Tutt shooting and was checking to see if anyone is interested in something like a 5 shot group, pistol, open sights at 100 yards standing, no bags, no bipod or tripod etc. You could use a standard 10" paper plate if you're that good, or for folks like me, a big target so you can see if you actually hit anything close.

Just an open challenge, something to do to have a little fun.

post a pic and the gun, measure the group.

Dave.

Sounds interesting! If I get out to the range this weekend I'll try it out, although knowing my "groups" at 25 yards... Well, if I was Davis Tutt, I think I'd have just given Bill his watch back!

I am going to try to get to the range this weekend, and shoot this, weather here has been interesting goes from 70 and nice to 65 and 30 mph gusts to 30 and snow. anyway, that's what you get when you live in the mountains (Yes - big difference between Reno and Vegas).

Maybe that will kick this off and we will see more interest.

My Range has 10, 25, 50, 100 200, for paper, and 300-975 for steel, I think a lot of ranges have 10, 25, 50 and 100. No 75 yard distance at my range which would be more historically correct.

I am going to try 50 yards first, then 100, and see how that works out

Is anyone interested in doing this or is it bad timing, not of interest, no desire, waste of time, been there done that got the t-shirt?

For those so inclined we can have a BP and smokeless division. Bill used an 1851 Navy in 36 caliber for his shot but the pietta and uberti 44s would be fine also in my opinion - this is for fun after all. I have fantasy 1851s in .44 and will get a 36 when I find the one I want in stock, I have been lusting after a more accurate replica.

We did these for a long time in the handgun threads.

Ones like “10 yards, 10 shots, fired DA one or two handed, 2” or shorter revolver on a NRA B-16 target” or “10 shots, 25 yards, SA or DA duty type pistol, NRA B-8”, etc.

They would run for a month or so to give guys time to hit the range. They are fun and made me want to hit the range a lot.

I entered a bunch of targets in a bunch of different monthly contests, but never came close to a high score... some of these guys here can really pepper the bullseye .

Once Covid and the ammo drought hit everyone hard it sort of petered out. :(

If there’s enough ammo out there to keep peoples guns stoked, I’m sure folks will participate.

Stay safe.
