Along with the cap and ball shooting I decided to expand the ROA's horizons a little and bought a Kirst conversion cylinder in 45 ACP, this revolver is absolutely amazing using those rounds.

I've been using low to medium velocity loads both for safety's sake as well as comfort and accuracy. Favorite load is 4 gn of Red dot or Universal under a cast (Wheel weight lead) 200 grain flat nose conical sized to .451

I also have used 200 grain Montana Gold JFP's with 5 grains and they shoot very well. I was advised to steer clear of any +P loads so I'm keeping it to 750-to 950 fps.

I also have been shooting T/C 240 gn Maxi-Balls, again hard cast and sized to 451 so they will fully chamber, again not shooting them hot but they rumble down range and will splat whatever they hit quite well.

The great thing is you can really play around with the loadings as you never need to worry about feeding and ejecting out of the auto.

I'm looking to find someone around the hood that has a 255 gn mold so I can try a few of those.

I know what you mean. A conversion cylinder sure does mix it up!

I've got a R&D conversion cylinder in .45 Colt. I only use it with BP though. Typical load for me is 40 grains Goex FFFg and a 0.452 250 grain RNFP.

Midway has Lee Precision molds in 255 grain flat point. A double mold runs about 20 bucks. I've used one for years. That's the bullet I use in most of my 45 Colt reloads, including BP cartridges. I use Lee tumble lube for them and add a lubed felt wad under the bullet in the BP cartridges.
