Hey Guys,

I was in the local gun shop today putting a Yugo M70 underfolder on layaway and happened to see a Hi-Power toward the back of the shelf. It looked like the real deal...not a clone...tangent sights, slotted backstrap (for shoulder stock), and old style extractor. The only problem is that the moron who owned it before had scrubbed all the markings off (scratches all over) except for the serial number, which is something like CH4xxx. I'm not sure, but it looks like a wartime Inglis. Price is $269. I think it's worth the money if for no other reason than it's a quality pistol and it's cool...but I could be wrong...

Any thoughts?

Ben

Actually it may not have been the moron that owned it ,but a refinishing job by the importer or arsenal. A lot of the Chinese contract pistols got an awful lot of use so had to be refinished pretty drastically, I've got one myself. For a working Inglis that would be a very good price, and worth spending a little money to make it look right.

Holy Monkeys!

That's not an Inglis at all I bet...after reading your post and looking around online, I'm inclined to think that's a Chinese contract Hi-Power! Those are worth some money, are they not?

That's a Chinese contract made in Canada by Inglis during WW2.

Not sure of the value where you are, but definitely worth that money in Canada.

It didn't have a shoulder stock with it, did it?

Sad to say, no shoulder stock! I plan on finding one though! After doing some research today I called the store and had them put it in layaway for me until I can get in to pick it up. I'm still not sure what a scratched up Chinese Contract is worth but it'll be worth the money to me just to have a piece of history. Interestingly, the guys at the gunshop don't seem to have any clue what this Hi-Power is...they have it marked as 'KBI (the magazine that came in it) Hi-Power.' Anyway, can't wait to pick it up!

It's worth the asking price and more if still in shootable shape . . . "CH" Inglis' w/shoulder stocks are going for quite a bit nowadays. So one without is still a good investment. If you decide you don't want it drop me a PM and let me know where it is.

Stinger,

I decided almost immediately after I saw it that I wanted it...I just wanted to figure out what it is first! If any of you have ever seen Conspiracy Theory, Mel Gibson's character has this inexplicable urge to buy a copy of Catcher in the Rye every time he enters a book store...well, I'm kind of like that with Hi-Powers! If I had the money, I'd buy them all...
