A while back I ran into some of these while expanding some range brass, are there any other cases with internal shoulders I need to know about? This was quite a surprise. It took me a few minutes to figure out what happened. The one on end is just to show the headstamp on the scanner.

That Federal .380 brass is the only brass I'm aware of with that internal ledge. I read that it was intended to help prevent bullet setback on feeding. My measurements indicated that it shouldn't affect normal bullet seating, since I want to use it for reloading.

Your expanding die must have been going deep.

RidgwayCo nailed it. The step is to prevent bullet setback and will work with a bullet of the same length as the original.

Hope this helps.

Yea I kinda figured that was the idea, I like the concept, problem is my expander has to run that deep to bell the mouth. I'll just toss em. The only cases I'm occasionally not happy with neck tension on is RP.

If you have 9mm or .38 Special expanding dies, try those. I've had the best luck with those using a universal expander die, since the shank is shorter and the angle more severe.

Hope this helps.
