Hey!

Just flipping through the newest G&A. Front page cover is their feature article on the 9mm XDm. Teaser line is "19+1 Highest Hi-Cap!" Inside, "Springfield's new XDm raises the ceiling on the "hi-cap" concept." I read the article and it was interesting enough (to a steel pistol with safeties guy, anyway).

Then I flipped over two pages and there's a CZ-USA ad for the SP-01 Phantom.

Which highlights a polymer framed pistol (also made in eastern Europe) that holds...what's this? Why, 19+1 rounds!

So, shouldn't the article have been titled, "Highest Hi-Cap, TOO!" ? :neener:

I'm not asking for good reporting. Or validity and consistency of thought throughout the entire magazine. Or even over the course of a few pages but...but...wait, what was I asking for again?

While the SP01 is a fantastic firearm, their magazine does extend out of the bottom of the grip quite a bit.

Its all about the marketing, so ppl will think its the hottest thing out there. Thats how SA sells/sold so many of the standard XDs. Not knocking SA or the XDs I have one of the older ones I bought new in 06. Its been great, I also have a steel CZ SP-01 that I bought in August that holds 19+1. So neither the XDm nor the Phantom are anything new to the high-cap world other than they are polymer framed.
I like that the SP01 mags stick out the bottom, that way the standard CZ 75 16rd mags will fit too. Whereas the old XD mags wont fit the XDm guns.

My glock 19 holds 33 +1 so if the mag sticking out the bottom isn't an issue it easily trumps them both ;)

"i've found they're really worth nothing more than toilet paper."

I wouldn't think that they would make that great of toilet paper (not very absorbant). Maybe better fire kindling.

Yup. Those mags are pretty lame. I think I "consume" my monthly copy of Guns & Ammo in about 10 minutes these days. GunTests is alright, though.

I remember I was able to get 19 in once, but the mag was jammed so tight the gun failed to strip the first round out of the mag.

I find it amusing that on the Springfield Armory site they claim the XD compact is," the shortest carry polymer pistol in the world that features the only light rail in its class."

Their specs: 6.25" length 4.75" height Capacity 10 rounds

I guess they never heard of the P-11 just to name one that is shorter:

Kel-tec P-11: 5.6" length 4.3" height capacity 12 round (comes with a 10 round mag but KT sells a 12 round flush fitting one for it)

if you have a new mag: load them to 18, then use the mag loader to make it 19. then leave it fully loaded for a few days. it'll work fine. i carry mine IWB 19+1 when i go south of I-20. it's also how i shoot it as limited minor in ipsc.

I just tried that, the most I can get in is 18 rounds. I am not even close to 19, I can only depress the 18th about 60% of the distance needed to get the 19th round in. the mags have been used for about 2K rounds each.

odd. maybe the follower or spring is different in yours...? does it feel like the follower is bottoming out, or is the spring binding?

Maybe the XD(M) got the glory instead of CZ because Springfield arms spends about 100 times more on advertising. Probably more than anybody except S&W. The gun mags just love those two.
