#1 Daughter brought a friend home to meet us last weekend, looks pretty serious.
Nice kid, from a small town in Iowa. Intelligent, well traveled, if he's registered he'll probably vote for Kerry. :barf:
Never shot a gun. Came from a home where guns were considered "unnecessary". My wife found this out, due to my work schedule I didn't get to spend much time with them.
Next time he comes should I and my son take him to the range and show him what he's missing?
For a break-in we'd shoot .22's and if it seemed like he was having a good time maybe gradually move on up to the good stuff; 38 special, .357, 45acp and if he's game whip out the .41 mag.
Anyone been there, done that?

You're far too nice to this kid. I don't know why you'd let him be with your daughter if he can't shoot a 2" group at 300 yards. :p

Daughter should go and "shame" him into shooting. He'll see how much fun she's having with Dad and if he wants to be part of the family, well, he'll just have to take up the sport.

Forgot to mention, Daughter doesn't go shooting. Thinks guns are "stupid".

Your daughter thinks guns are stupid but a boyfriend that votes for Kerry is not?

What's wrong with this picture? :D

When I was ninteen I was a liberal too, one grows wiser over time. :D

Blindfold him and have him field-strip and reassemble an AR-15.

If he can do it, then he's marriage material. :D

Invite him to the range, but be prepared to have him decline. From his perspective, the idea of going to a place with loud, dangerous things with two possible future in-laws would be scary.

Don't pontificate, answer questions in a straightforward manner, and take your time. He's a long way from being able to identify an M-16A1 from an M-16A4.

I have a son-in-law that started out just like that...

Him: "I've never shot a handgun before"
Me: "Here, try this one (hands him Super Blackhawk") "Make sure and hold on to it"

BOOM!
:what:
Him: "Hey, that wasn't so bad"

I know, dumb way to start someone, but he caught on and is now a shooter... owns his own 1911.

Don't make a big deal of it. Grab your stuff and go shoot just like you always do. Invite him along, don't push. Remember he's trying to make an impression.....he'll go

Take it easy on him and he'll probably have fun, then you may have a successful convert. Once he's discovered shooting can be fun, it's only a matter of time before he realizes Kerry is an elitist moron.

Smoke

Invite him out and have fun. My non-shooting friend thought shooting a .454 Casull was the greatest thing ever. Now he wants to buy a .22 and a .44 or .454.

Invite him to go to the range with you, leave daughter home, and while ya'll are shooting casually say that "this is what's gonna happen to the person that would ever harm my daughter....:uhoh: ,...and anyone who votes for skerry oughta be.....:what: .

..Might work.....:D

My father-in-law introduced me to the MUZZLE END of firearms, if you know what I mean.
:D

My daughter's only 11...

I'd consider "straightening" him up before he married my daughter.

"Probably vote for Kerry"??? Ugh....

I never thought I'd support "arranged marriages", but I've already got my future son-in-law picked out. He's my boss's (and Godfather's) son. We've been shooting together a few times already, and he wants me to take him to Knob Creek in October. He's also the same religion (traditional Catholic) - which is the only other requirement - besides being a "gun guy" to marry my daughter.

My little girl just rolls her eyes and giggles when I mention him, but I know they "like" each other. I pray they keep the interest into their teenage years...

Heh, I was on the receiving end of that once.

Girl I dated in college told her dad that I was a Democrat and didn't own any guns. (I was living on campus at that point, none allowed.) Being the protective dad he rightly should be, he "invited" me out to the range.

After I shot a tighter grouping then he did, he mumbled something about "younger eyes", slipped me a $50 and told me to take his daughter someplace nice.

He was rather upset when his daughter and I decided it'd be best just to be friends. He and I still go to the range time to time, every time he asks if we changed our minds.

I think you always have to be very careful trying to influence sig others of your children. If either detects that you are actively trying to change them, rebellious contrary opinion is almost certain. I would only try to casualy mention that you shoot and see if there's interest. Maybe as the couple get closer to hitched you might suggest that you would respect a man much more if he is able to properly defend your daughter. Just my $.02.

My oldest daughter brought home a new kind of guy last fall. Told me he wanted to see my gun collection. Hunts and enjoys all sorts of firearms.

Now my girl wants to learn to shoot, finally. It looks like this one is serious. He is in school for a career in law enforcement. Next time he is in PA I'm sure I can get him to the range.

:D

Kerry? as the saying goes somthing like everyone is a Democrat until they been robbed. Maybe you can turn him around dont advise mugging him thow.

My ex-gf thought the same thing... UNTIL I bought her one for herself :D

Then it was "Guns are stupid.. all except mine." :neener:

Kerry? as the saying goes somthing like everyone is a Democrat until they been robbed.

Everybody's a Democrat until they get robbed. Then they become a Republican.
Everybody's a Republican until APRIL 15th... then they become a Libertarian.:neener:

So you've been unsuccessful with your daughter over the last 20 years, but think you can convert her swain in 20 minutes?

Goooooood luck!

Somebody's sig was a quote I think from W. Churchill to the effect: "If a young man is not a liberal, he has no heart; if a mature man is not conservative, he has no brain", or thereabouts!

Stay safe.
