On February 28, 2013 the Nevada Sheriffs’ and Chiefs’ association voted unanimously to end the recognition of Arizona concealed weapon permits. Effective the date of this release the State of Nevada will no longer recognize

CRAP. I put in for an AZ permit three weeks ago EXACTLY for this reason.

Summary:
1. NV approved AZ when they were looking at AZ's old requirements to obtain a CCW permit.
2. When AZ went constitutional carry, they eased the requirements for obtaining a CCW permit.
3. NV finally realized that the requirements had changed to that which is lower than the NV standard and as a result removed AZ for the list of states they honor.

I'll put it this way.

I was in Vegas a week ago. I had a S&W 642 I borrowed from a friend of mine, because my left arm is still in a cast, and it's easier to run with one hand. I had applied for my AZ permit, but it hasn't arrived yet. I stopped in Mesquite, and slipped it into the bag in my trunk.....because I'm a good law-abiding high-roader who FOLLOWS THE LAW AT ALL TIMES. I went to the Luxor, took my computer bag to the front desk and checked in, and went up to my room. I went back down to get the other bag....and it was gone. (This was the night after the explosion on the strip near The Bellagio.) So I filed a police report, hoping that whoever stole it will think it's not gangsta enough for them and try to pawn it. I am filing a claim and will pay my friend back for it.

This happened because.......I followed the rules and didn't just leave it in my waistband and take it to my room. I applied for the AZ permit to be able to avoid these kinds of problems. So, I am out my friend's 642, $60 for the AZ permit, and $20 for two fingerprint cards. The proper description for my mood and response to this move is NOT AT ALL high road.

Its happened before and reinstated.

Hopefully it get reinstated again. I dont want to have to go get a NV permit now.

And this is why we need some sort of national reciprocity for concealed carry. It's a giant PITA to have to navigate who honors whose permits.

Well, I guess that means more people will just have to open carry in Nevada and not conceal the gun.... makes perfect sense to me. Instead of having people who have background checks and certification from a state government carrying their guns where nobody even sees them, now they will have more people openly carrying, which requires no background check or permit at all in Nevada. Hey, at least on a positive side, they are ENCOURAGING carrying a gun in the manner that does not require government permission to do so. I'm all for that!

A closer look shows that a non-resident Arizona CCW which will be issued to any citizen of the USA who meets the background requirements. There are more states that do not recognize it than there are that do.

If this issue has to do with the resident CCW, don't be a bit suprised if more states follow suit.

A closer look at what....?..... Since when did AZ start a resident / non-resident permit?

We've had that policy for a while, largely due to the snowbirds that come in from all over. You don't have to be an Arizona resident to get a permit. But due to the fact that we no longer require a permit at all while in the state, I don't know how many non-resident permits are currently being issued.

AZ only has one permit.

That one/same permit is issued to both AZ residents and non-AZ residents.

I took the course in AZ that was acceptable to them when they granted reciprocity. Nothing has changed in my AZ CCW status.

I can understand people who now carry here without a permit not being allowed to CCW in Nevada. But not allowing permitted folks???

Something is wrong here.

NV requires live fire training/qualification, as one of the rquirements to be recognized by NV.

The AZ CCW training course requires live fire training/qualification for obtaining an AZ CCW permit.

However, other forms of training can be used instead of doing the actual AZ CCW course.

It was discovered some of those other forms of training do not require live fire training/qualification.
Example... The UT CCW permit does not require live fire training/qualifications and a UT CCW permit can be used to get an AZ CCW permit. Which allows a person to obtain an AZ CCW permit without doing any sort of live fire training/qualification.

Once this method was brought to the attention of the NVSCA (by Las Vegas area firearm trainers), the NVSCA complied with NV state laws and dropped AZ.

.....HOWEVER, it should also be realized that in dropping Arizona, NV has successfully eliminated all of the permits that potential tourists can easily obtain that would allow them to carry into casinos. THAT is the real reason they have systematically dropped them.

Casinos here do not respect CCW; if they know you're carrying, you will be asked to leave or remove the gun.

That's one of those; "It's legal, whether they like it or not, the signs hold no force of law, concealed means concealed" situations.
