I picked up a G17 and wanted to see what recommendations you all have as far as what manufactures, bullet weights, charges, etc to use. I would like to stick to the Hogodon HP-38 and Berry's plate bullets if possible.

I use 5.0gr charge with 165gr premium bullets for my 40 s&w. Very satisfied so far.

I use Berry's 124 grain round nose and flat point plated bullets in my G17.

OAL for flat point is 1.050"
OAL for round nose is 1.150"

The flat point bullet functions well and makes nice round holes in the IDPA targets for easy scoring. I have had excellent results with Berry's plated bullets in all my pistols.

I use Bullseye powder so can't help you there. Need to use data that is somewhere between lead and fmj for plated bullets. I use 4.0 grains of Bullseye in my IDPA loads.

i use rainer 115gr hp with 5 gr of bullseye. this is a max load in the book so aproach with caution. shoots well. now i know you said hp-38, but this is my go to load for a g17, so i figured i'd share anyway :)

I used Berry's plated 115 gr. bullet over 5.1 grs. of HP38. That goes about 1,180 in my G17.

I've never loaded anything other than HP38/5.1 with the 115 gr. bullet. In fact this was the first reload I ever did. I chose HP38 to start with because the velocities were reasonable and the pressure was considerably below maximum - so I started off at the max load of 5.1. I got this load out of a Lee manual.

This load is very easy shooting in the G17.
