I'm buying a new handgun next week. I've narrowed it down to the Glock 22 or the SA XD-40. I have shot and like them both. The Glock is about $60 more, but the cost don't really bother me that much. My friend has a Glock and never had any trouble with it, but I've heard good things about the XD-40 also.

What do you guys think?

I got both. I'd go with G22. I had to send the XD40 back to SA due to repetitive jamming.
I never have to send two of my G22 back. XD just cannot touch GLOCK's finish too.

I would go with the XD. but thats me. also they have changed the finish on the XD's to melonite

Tecdv, both are great pistols. Which fits your hand best? Which points most naturally for you? Try to shoot both and see if you shoot one more comfortably, more accurately, and more quickly than the other.

I have a Glock 22, but not the XD in 40cal. I do have a XD in 45acp and one in 9mm and would buy a XD over a Glock if I was going to buy a new one.

A friend of mine has both. He says he prefers the Glock, but I've noticed all his range shooting is with the XD. He'll fire out the loaded mag on the Glock, then it sits on the bench while the XD gets reloaded.
My opinion, having shot both a few times myself, is that the Glock is a better shooting pistol, i.e. if you get everything right, it pays off better. The XD seems to be easier to get everything right with however.

Also you might want to take parts availability into consideration buddy had to send the his whole gun back because the grip safety spring broke and Springfield would not sell or send him parts. Also the glock trigger pull can be changed for under 3 bucks.

G22 or SA XD-40?

Any chance you're going to handload? If yes, get the XD.

If you're cool with either, just pick one. It's just Tupperware, after all.:neener:

I just got an XD-40. For all that I've been able to get it out it seems like quite a nice piece.

From my point of view - I am not a XD fan or a 40 cal fan...so if I have to choose from your list, I'd go w/ the Glock 22.

Glock or XD?

I have a Glock 17 and had a XD 9mm tactical model. The Glock just feels better and I shoot better with it. It still just depends on the fit and what suits you.

Haven't shot the .40, but I picked up an XD9 Tactical for IDPA shooting in December and couldn't be happier. For my hands the grip feels much better, and it points right for me.

I own an xd 40 and a glock 27, plus I've done quite a bit of shooting with the g22. For myself I find the xd to have a more comfortable grip, a better trigger feel, and presents better. Grip actual and trigger feel are totally personal though. I'd say xd but ymmv...

i am sorry to hear that you had problems with the xd, but i own two in .40 caliber, service model and the sc and as you can see by my signature i have fired a few rds through them both andi have never had a single hitch, even, with the internals covered in sand duiring one of the torture test i conducted on my service model.

to the original question, i would say go with the xd, and for me it is simple i have extensive experience with the xd's and i trust them above any other weapon out there. they cost less. sa has an outstanding customer service and warranty, the xd's stock sights are what i like i can't stand the glock factory u shape sights, i also love the fact that the xd's have fully supported chambers, metal sights instead of plastic, metal trigger and guide rods as well unlike that of the glocks. i also like the fact that the xd's have a loaded chamber indicator and cocked indicator. the xd's also have ss mags not big polymer magazines. these are some of the reasons i love the xd but not all, since you tried them both and you like both i would say get the xd and join the xd family!

I was skeptical last year when my Wife bought a plastic gun. I was not partial to Glocks( my opinion, they are good guns), so the XD Tactical .40 did not have me jumping n the aisles. After shooting it however, I love it. I am looking into the .45 this year. Both are good guns. If the choice is that tough, buy both:) or flip a coin. Good Luck

Well, I changed my mind...Sort of....

I just picked up a G30 instead of the G22. I ran into a little more money so I decided to go with the .45 instead. I also like the smaller size of the G30.

I am going to buy an XD also, but may have to wait a few months since I just spent the extra on the other.

Going to the range after work tonight to give it a shot....Pun intended.....

Thanks for all your comments and suggestions.....

You hear about having to send a gun back to SA for some minor part replacement under warranty. Think about it, would you send parts out for your guns that carried a lifetime warranty for some unknown butcher to hack and beat into your gun knowing that it would come back to you to fix for free later?

I think the XD45 I have is one of if not THE best pistol I've ever had the pleasure to own and shoot.

That said, would I change anything about it? Yes two items:

1. Allow the slide to move back without depressing the grip safety
2. Allow the customer to "pin" the grip safety if they wished to do so.

I have shot and like them both.
For me, personally, it is the XD (which I own in both 40 and 45). The Glock does not fit my hand, so I'd never own one. Since you've shot and like both, maybe you should go with which one looks better to you, IMHO the Glock. Not to throw in too much confusion, but have you looked at the S&W M&P?

Allow the customer to "pin" the grip safety if they wished to do so.
Black rubberband, maybe?

ETA: Guess I should read the entire thread before posting.:D How's that big old Glock .45 feel in your hands? :)

My XD SC in .40 has been utterly reliable, accurate, easy to shoot, and easy to hit with. Great gun.
