G34/35

Would anyone here carry a G34 or G35, when you could carry a full-size pistol?(I'm talking about the glock handgun.)

If not, why?

Here's my thoughts on the matter: It has a longer sight radius, which should help in accuracy. (I'm not sure if a longer sight radius means it's harder to acquire the target, though.) It also has a lighter trigger, 4.5 pounds instead of 5.5, according to the glock website. This would require you to absolutely keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot, so if you can't exercise good gun safety, this is not a smart idea.

But if you can keep your finger off the trigger, this would make it easier to hit your target, a presumably difficult task under stress, with a handgun, so I figure I need all the help I can get.

So, I think I would carry it, what about y'all

Way too big for me. I prefer compact models for concealed carry and leave the long slides for IDPA.

I have a 34, and shooting it is not appreciably different from shooting a 17. It might be slightly more accurate, but I don't think its enough to matter in gun fight.

I have a G35...which is what I recommend for carrying on duty or open carry...

Regarding difficult reaching sight radius is a farce, because it depends on the individual and amount of time to reach the sight picture. With the longer lenght, it gets me on target every time.

As for trigger, I use a 3.5lb. connector (with the minus "-" mark on it) plus an NY1 trigger spring that makes it feel like a revolver trigger. It gives me a better control, plus I'm used to it to even compete.

Lastly, the weight makes up for the recoil. Shooting the G35 in .40S&W makes it feel like I'm shooting a 9mm or worse...a .22lr.

Bottomline, see if there's one to rent at your local range and judge for yourself.

The G34/35 is exactly the same dimensionally as the full size 1911, a handgun I consider as excellent for belt carry and too large for the average person to comfortably carry concealed.

When I want to hide a Glock, I choose the smaller G19 and G26 models.

A .40S&W with very low recoil, high capacity, and a light trigger, that sounds pretty good to me. I'm not a cop, so weight probably isn't as much of an issue for me. (I probably won't have to wear it 10 hours in a row.)

I agree about the length of the slide for carry. The 1911 at least has a slimmer slide if it's IWB.

Glock is much thinner than a six shot revolver and carries 16 to 20 shots verses five, six, or nine from the revolver or 1911

Biggest advantage I have found for the Model34/35 is that you can mount a weapon light and it will be behind the muzzle instead of in front of it.
This keep powder soot off the lens and prevents muzzle blast from breaking the bulb.

Even the G17 places most lights in line with the muzzle.

IIRC Tom Givens, the head honcho at RangeMaster in Memphis, TN(www.rangemaster.com) uses a G35 carried IWB as his daily CCW gun, so there's at least one recommendation.

Then again, Tom Givens is a very savvy dude with literally decades of experience, not just as a gun owner/shooter, but as an instructor, and as the owner of a gun range he probably puts in way more practice than most people do...

Personally, I actually have CCW'ed my G35 for 10+ hours at a time, but then I use a good IWB holster(Safariland 27), a good belt(Wilderness Frequent Flyer 5-stitch 1.5"), and I've installed the NY-1 trigger and steel fixed night sights(Heinie Straight-8) on it to bring it into conformity with my other CCW Glocks. I like to "show-and-tell" the whole rig to my students when I teach CCW classes, and generally no more than 3 out of 12-15 students ever notice the gun until I lift my shirt and show it.

Having said that, however...when I CCW on a non-class day, I generally go with my 9mm G26...

When I IWB the G34 I get quite a bit of lint and dust throught the slide cutout. I'm considering a change to a 17 or 19.

Somewhere I saw something aboout a 19 with a long slide (17 length) I just don't remember where. Now if I get a 17L slide and barrel for the 17 I can get a "19L" slide and use my 17 barrel for the 19 I jhaven't bought yet...Hmmm

Anybody remember seeing this anywhere? Christmas is coming and a full size slide with a short grip would be easy to CCW and shoot...

LWD makes dust covers for the bottom of the slides for using a 17 slide on a 19. Here is their page on that.
