I have a Sig P320 Compact and love it. But, I would like something G34-like for IDPA SSP use with a longer sight radius. I will get the G34 if need to, but the recently announced P320 Target seems tailor fit for such competition. And, the modular trigger is awesome for not needing two guns.

There's been no announcement that I am aware of whether or not the Target conversion kit will be made available for existing P320 owners. Anyone have better info indicating yea or near?

I'll take the silence as a "No" that no one has heard about the Sig P320 Target model being offered as a conversion kit for existing P320 owners. I thought there would be a market for this, but this thread's reaction makes me wonder otherwise. Perhaps it is time, after resisting for decades, to buy a Glock...

I saw a post on another forum that said they will start making the kits available after the initial run of target pistols is complete. This might be a while.

It also appears you can upgrade your existing FCU to use the new trigger parts, but again, it might be a while before this is actually available.

I'm definitely no 320 expert, but looking at the pictures of the 320 target, virtually the entire gun looks different to me... frame and slide.

As I understand it, there is a modular fire control group that is the serialized part.

It looks to me like a "kit" to convert an existing 320 would likely be virtually the entire gun except the fire control group: Frame, slide, barrel.

Might as well just buy the whole gun.

Isn't that true of any P320 conversion? Only the FCU changes over.

Yep.

Three kinds of frame (subcompact, compact, and full) each in three sizes (small, medium and large). The 9mm and .40/.357sig use the same frame, the .45s have their own. I'm not sure about the .380 and the .22 but I think they use the 9mm frame as well.

The slides and barrels come in subcompact, compact, and full sizes too. A 'caliber conversion kit' comes with a frame, magazines, a barrel and and slide.

Lots of folks like the compact slides on the subcompact frames, and some will trim the fronts of their compact grips to nicely fit subcompact slides. The frames are only about $40 so you don't have too much at risk if you decide to try you hand at modifying one.

The P250 and the P320 share the same frames and magazines, and some other parts. The FCUs, trigger parts and slides are different. I'm pretty sure the barrels are interchangeable as well.
