It's a direct corollary to the two quotes from the previous two posts. It should be obvious.

You probably shouldn't answer this (thread drift) but you should probably review the difference between a federal bailout and a bankruptcy. In simple fact they are quite different and you are comparing unlike kinds of things. The correlation is opaque at best, and arguably there is no actual correlation.

Thank you, huntsman.

I went on Gander's site and saw the press release and the customer letter, but I didn't see a list of store closures, so I'm glad you posted one.

I'm sorry to see the one in Texarkana going away. I would stop there a lot as it was the last store in Texas (and the last place to conveniently buy a gun) before you crossed the border into Arkansas.

I noticed from the Gander Mountain press release that they intend to auction off the chain as a whole at an auction next month. So, who do you suppose is in the market for a chain of high-overhead sporting goods stores now that the panic buying occasioned by the prosect of a Hillary presidency has faded away?

I noticed that their press release also said that they didn't have the time or cash to implement a turn-around strategy. I think that will a common refrain from a number of sporting goods stores, gun stores and sellers of accessories & components over the rest of the year. Any firm that did not formulate a strategic plan based on a Trump victory and position themselves to implement it if necessary and was instead betting on a Hillary victory to keep the good time rolling is going to see times get worse before they get better.

"So we have proof that at least the president is pretty well versed in bankruptcy. So what....."

"He's from Austin. 'nuf said....."

Thanks, fellas, for embracing the spirit of the HIGH ROAD, where healthy debate can occur amongst a diverse collective of firearms enthusiasts.

I support the 2nd amendment and served a number of years in defense of it. In defense of your opinion and my opinion. I expect that, beyond RKBA matters, we all differ in those opinions.

However, on a forum that used to be/should be not political, anyone left of Huckabee is regularly made to feel uncomfortable.

Another member here has a great signature line:

"Your commitment to Freedom and Liberty is measured by your tolerance for others doing things you disapprove."

If both ridiculous fringe ends of our political spectrum would consider that, the nation could TRULY be "great again"

Thanks.
Jay

My local GM had ten boxes of 22 Hornet, Remington, for $59.99 a box!!! (50) I told them they were never gonna sell that stuff at that price. PPU is $24.99 a box at the store across the city, a local store. GM wouldn't come down, even after I showed them a cell phone pic of the PPU ammo.

Guess what.....they still have it! THAT is why they are struggling.......

Cabelas and Gander had motor oil for like $79 a gallon. Other places carry it for $32.

I was like what are they thinking.

My friend who worked for Gander said that a Hillary win would have been enough to save Gander.

Crazy.

Frankly, if you want to discuss politics in a forum that specifically discourages it (from the Code of Conduct: "We have learned from bitter experience that discussions of politics...often degenerates... For this reason, we do not discuss such subjects on THR...") you had better be absolutely on point. You weren't. You were conflating very different ideas to imply something that doesn't follow from the evidence you cited.

I suspect that I, as a classical liberal, fall far to the "left" of most people you will ever meet (to be clear, both major US parties are what I consider to be well to the right of anything I consider good), so don't think that this is coming from a conservative who is defending his guy. Think of it instead as someone pointing out that your argument isn't good.

That honestly doesn't seem likely. Sporting Goods stores have been having trouble for years. Sportsman's Warehouse had big issues in 2009, and there have been more than a few chain closures since. Selling guns in an anti-gun political climate isn't enough to rescue a poorly managed business facing fierce competition from better run stores.

Yeah, I started to cut and paste the same forum guidelines, Ed.

I veered in another direction. My "point" should have been obvious. That whether one calls it a public bailout or a bankruptcy, they usually stem from the same causes, and the end result, in one way or another, WE pay for it.

I'll step out of this thread. I don't wish to upset anyone else by challenging rigid perspectives.

Indeed. And 6 plus pages is more than enough about something that's barely on topic to start with. Interesting to gun owners, and worth mentioning/getting clarity on what GM is doing with stores, but we have drifted far from that.
