Gander Mountain upset

i asked him why and he said 'look at the sign, we only deal in hunting and sport, this is for killing people'

That's insane. You should see the sniper style rifles they have at the Gander Mountain here, not to mention the multitude of handguns.

That guy definitely was off his rocker.

That kind of stuff really ticks me off. And I don't even own a "black" gun. Nor is it likely that I ever will. I happen to like wood.

But since when do bullets from a black gun only kill people? What is it? you shoot at a deer and the bullet turns and homes in on a human? Good grief, these antis are as dumb as a box of rocks.

And I would certainly talk to the manager of that store, as well as corporate.

And that's my rant for the day.

Heh, just what on this green earth does he think a hunting rifle is? A hunting rifle is by design and definition a sniper's rifle. The entire concept of hunting is the sniper's art (sans the bright orange), especially when you hunt while walking. In any case, the only difference in the Savage FP (I had a 110 in 308 once) and the other hunting packages is the bull barrel and the black stock, as well as matte finish. Okay, well, not the bull barrel because of the varmint models. Okay, not the black stock because of all the synthetic stocks are black (unless you mean the pistol-gripped stock, which is also used on varmint rifles). Then the matte finish must be...but no, it isn't.

Okay, other than being too darn heavy for regular hunting, what really is the difference? Ah, I get it, a bull barrel in 308! Yeah, that makes it a man killer...

I was at the GM in Spring, TX, this past weekend and couldn't find any ARs. They had been on display in a glass case but nothing now...no AK, nothing for "killing people."

I was mostly upset they didn't have any Varget!

The GM in Hattiesburg, MS, has Mini14 GB's, Springfield M1a's, and AR-15's. Heck, they have some real deal might have killed a man man killer M44 Mosins.

The GM near me carries Black rifles, I don't know if they actually ever sell any at the prices they ask- they never carried them until Sportsman's Warehouse and Cabela's set up stores nearby.

I ordered a rifle through GM last summer- it took the 1/2 trained monkey behind the counter nearly an hour to find the model I was looking for, and even then he had a bad attitude the entire time. He told me thatit would be in in 4-5 days and that they would call when it arrived. Two weeks went by without a phone call, so I stopped in on my way home from work. It turned out that it had arrived, noone called me, the price was $60 more than the original, and it was the wrong model of rifle.:cuss: I ended up going to Sportsman's Warehouse and buying the correct model for $10 less than the GM quoted price.

Wow, it scares me to know there are antis actually involved in the selling of firearms.

The guy at Gander needed some medicine from you. Instead of walking away, I would have asked him to explain himself, then made him look stupid. Ask him how your rifle is different from a hunting 30-06 on the shelf. When he points out the only difference is that yours is black...I think you see where I'm going.

If he's too stupid to educate himself, maybe you could do the educating.

It depends on the store.

That USED to be store policy.

The one I work at here sells ARs and AR accessories.

The one in Duluth wouldn't sell me a holster for my surefire because it was a "law enforcement type item and we only deal with sporting goods"

Maybe that guy hasn't gotten the word yet.

Call corporate and get the word to them that one of there stores is behind.

Don't forget the Golani (Galil) and Thompsons!

I, too, want to like the place, but anything in there costs an arm, a leg, and a nostril! "

I have had good luck finding deals @ the 290 store. They seem to "deal" more like a regular gun shop than most big box stores.

Bowfish. Again, the 290 store has a good "sporting rifle" selection. They have had gas piston ARs as well as the odd chamberings. They have had .50 beo., 6.5 Grendel and a .243 AR10.

Ive been treated nicely at the local GM store(gun counter) here in sw michgan.
But, with that said, let me say that the couple times ive bought big ticket items from behind the counter, i have known what i want ahead of time, so theres no sales pitch needed and ive had a gift certificate to use up!!
The time to get waited on at the gun counter always seems to long, although im pretty impatient. Its a lot easier to go in there and say "ill take one of those"..no muss no fuss, no idiotic sales pitch or 2 cents worth of BS from a salesman.
Also, i stumbled upon a Savage 110 30/06 in thier used rack that was priced right, so i was able to say once again "ill take this" (once i got waited on).

If the sight of a bolt gun made the guy freak out, I wonder what would have happened if you had pulled out an AK. The guy would have probably had a coronary on the spot.

I was in the one in Greensboro last night fondling the AR's and M14's. Too bad that the prices they ask are astronomical. All I do there is fondle. I buy somewhere else :D.

The guy is an idiot. They probably sell any number of bolt action "hunting" rifles that are as deadly or more so than than the rifle you showed him. I would have pointed that out and chastised him for his judgmental--and ignorant--attitude. I would have also asked which of the guns he sells *won't* kill people, and asked him if he knows that the military has at times used rifles virtually identical to sporting models as sniper rifles.

Sheesh.

Heck, the GM in North Little Rock sells Mosin Nagant M44s, which were much more likely to have killed someone than any of the commercial ARs they sell.

The guy was an idiot, times two.

That's very odd. GM here in Greenwood, Indiana has a fine selection of ARs for sale and they stock quite a lot of Mosins. I wouldn't want to presume that nobody hunts with those but that seems a very odd reply.

For what it's worth, I can't imagine I'd ever buy a gun from them because of their prices. Socks, clothes, ammo, sure...probably not a gun.

There are no Gander Mountain stores near me so I have never been to one personally. After reading all of this,I don't think I want to. FWIW,I don't own any weapons(until called upon for that purpose) just firearms.

hell the guy was probably one of Micheal Bloomburge's croonies there to stop the mythical straw purchase. Was he wearing a NYC hat or a blue U.N. helmet?

I refuse to buy anything at Gander Mountain these days. I have had terrible experiences at their store in Fredericksburg, VA. I have talked to multiple store managers and even regional managers. They suck. They are the Walmart of sporting goods.

No on knows what they are talking about. They are rude and have corporate culture that simply cannot get out of its own way.

Who hires these people--you'd think they'd ask at some point (the HR or GM's of the world) in the interview: 'you LIKE guns, right--and LIKE talking about guns with cutomers who LIKE guns?'. Or what, is that a FORBIDDEN question in an interview these days when the job entails SELLING guns.

The anti-gun ethos has so permeated the business world (at least the HR level) it seems that a store that SELLS guns has to DESPISE its customers and pretend its product is on some level that is morally superior.

It still makes me smile that THE SAME STORE has Bushie M-4's on sale and has them on the page opposite little pink Cricket .22s-----in a sense THAT IS PROGRESS for all concerned.

If they could just get it all wired right...GM has a place in the 'burbs often not filled anymore.

I never shopped at a GM before. Heck there are only mom, and pop gun stores out in the country.

If I drive an hour, and a half north there is a sportsman's, and a cabela's.

Heck at sportman's I saw one of those new Sig rifles, and wanted to check it out. The guy at the counter was more than happy to show it to me, he also explained how it worked.

Even the old mom, and pop stores around here don't think anything bad about non hunting rifles. The last gun I bought was a Yugo AB2 I ordered through one of them. The old man was more than happy to order it.

I know it shouldn't matter, but how people dress sometimes throw off gun counter guys. I have seen young men dressed all baggy pants, with backwards hats stand forever waiting for service. I have seen the same thing with guys all decked out in military camo, and combat boots wait for a long time. My usual attire is wrangler jeans, button up shirt, stetson hat, and justin boots. I just come off as a redneck good ol boy, but I have never waited for service at a gun counter.

The Gander Mtn in Green Bay WI has plenty of evil people-killing weapons - AR's, Mini-14's, Mosin's, Sig's, police/combat shotguns, plenty of handguns. Even the Mom&Pop stores have 'em. Some even sell supressors.

A long time ago I worked for a store in Green Bay that refused to deal in "Assault Rifles" (as they were called back then). They're no longer in business. Good riddance.

Yeah, I'd definitely complain to the store manager on that one. I'd bet the mgt would gladly correct his attitude. And if not, just don't go back.

the nearest GM to me is about an hour drive from me and I have driven there a few times and have not been impressed at all. What is the deal with their ammo prices they wanted almost 20 dollars more than what i pay at the accademy here in town. their staff is fairly rude and dont seem to know much .From now on I think I will save the gas and support local friendly, well informed buissness

The new GM in West Palm Beach has a whole wall of evil black rifles and others like M1a's and similar weapons. Not the hunting section, for sure!!
