Hey folks I'm trying to use a old set of Yankee hill flip ups on my new ar build. Only thing is that the front sight is designed to be used on a gas block. Is it going to be too tall for use on my free float tube? Thanks for any info.

Unless you paid extra to get a "same plane" gas block rail, the flip up sign will indeed be too tall.

And, if you mount the sight on a free float rail, its no longer a free float. The tube gets the sling and hand pressure, divorced from a sight mounted on the barrel. Mount the sight on the tube, it's going to wander around again to some degree. You lose precision and it's exactly like having just handguards again.

That makes the free float just a $200 accessory rail instead of a precision shooting enhancer. That's an ok location for a rarely used BUIS, but certainly no way to go prairie dog shooting.

You might want to consider the A.R.M.S. gas block that has an integral flip-up front sight. (When flipped up, it looks like the original triangular style front sight.) This co-witnesses with rear BUIS. The A.R.M.S. gas block clamps on the barrel. There's a hole on the bottom of the gas block that you line up with the dimple on the barrel that's opposite the gas port.

They have two sights with different heights. One for a standard use and a low profile site
