General ?? about the Buy, Sell, Trade Section

Just so I understand a little better. Please forgive my ignorance on the issue...


I Live in Iowa (I have an Iowa permit to purchase Hand Guns) and see a handgun for sale in, lets say...Ohio. In the add it says FTF or will ship.

** Since I live in Iowa I can not go to Ohio and buy this gun FTF, correct? Is each State different or is this a National thing or is it even an issue?

(I am of the understanding you can not buy a handgun FTF if you live in another state than the seller)


** I would have to have it shipped to an FFL here in Iowa, right?

Right.

The FFL transfer fee is cheaper than the fuel and time to drive much of any distance even within your state anyways, IMO.

The Feds do not allow interstate transfers of any guns between individuals (non-dealers).

In most states outside of your resident state, you can buy a long gun from a dealer, but not a handgun. An out-of-state dealer would have to ship a handgun to a dealer in your state of residence.

A few dealers will accept guns only from other dealers, so make sure before setting up a transfer. This could be added expense since the seller would have to transfer to a dealer, have the dealer send to your dealer, and then he transfers it to you.

Everything you said is accurate.

I dealt with one local FFL holder who accepted guns from other dealers but when it came time to accept one from a private party in another state he said, "No". I said, "See ya." & have been using a different (& cheaper) FFL holder ever since. My gain.
