My main self defense guns are a couple Colt 6920s. I'm well aware of the benefits of a mag fed semi auto rifle. The Ruger guide gun weighs in at 8.12 lbs with minimum OAL of 41 inches. Add rings and an optic to the mix, and your looking at 9.5 lbs unloaded. (About the same as an M1 Garand)
My M1A-A1 weighs less than that, and has useful iron sights for shooting at medium ranges. Add optics, and it's only a half lbs more.
Self defense at close range again people, feral dogs, etc...... and 4 rd internal magazines might not be interesting any longer.
Hopefully food for thought at least.
I looked at that but I really want a CRF action. The M70 Extreme Weather is my top candidate currently.I would agree with Matt above.
The Guide gun that Ruger puts out would not make for a good GPR.
The Savage hog hunter would be a better candidate for a GPR, compared to the guide gun.
It still suffers the same measly iron sights, and limited mag capacity, but weighs less, has a threaded bbl, and can be had in either 30-06 or 308.
