Georgia Arms Ammo Questions

Georgia Arms is going to be at a gun show here this weekend, so I thought I'd try some of their ammo. I have a couple of questions:

1) Is there any difference at all between their regular "Pistol Ammunition" and their "Canned Heat" - or are they the exact same load - except that the Canned Heat is packaged in bulk (500/1000 rounds in metal ammo cans)?

2) What in your opinion is a better 9mm range/target load - their 115gr FMJ or the 124gr FMJ NATO? It appears that the NATO is a hotter load - since it is a heavier bullet but is still rated slightly faster (1200 FPS for the 124gr FMJ NATO vs. 1150 for the 115gr FMJ).

I'm also going to try some of their "Shear Power Plus" 124gr JHP +P.

For pure range shooting, the 115 would offer a but less recoil but I prefer to practice what you would/do carry defensively and that would be 124 Gr for me.

Nothing but good things to say about Georgia Arms. I've used their handgun and rifle ammo. They're Ballistic Tip 223s are very reasonable as they seem to charge a markup on their cost rather than just jack the price up because it's premium ammo as most ammo companies do.

I've not used their 9mm but I do use their 45acp. It's clean-burning and uniform in manufacture. Accuracy is very good and the price is fair, especially since you can get it at the gun shows.

I have nothing but good things to say for them and recommend you give it a try.

There is no difference between their canned heat and the other range ammo listed. Go with the 124gr 9mm ammo as I found it more accurate in most of my 9s especially those made in Europe.

Where you WILL find a difference is between Georgia Arms NEW ammunition and their "Canned Heat" etc.

Their "new" stuff is loaded into virgin Starline brass with excellent quality control. For instance, their lead wadcutters in .45 ACP shoot about 2" at 25 yards from my converted military .45. For carry purposes, pick the new stuff, and shoot the "remanufactured" stuff on the range.

I give Georgia Arms my highest recommendation. I carry it in my gun every day.

It's all good stuff. Some of the Sheer Power is also occasionally loaded in fired brass (like the 357 SIG). Like cratz2 says, practice w/a load that performs similar to what you'd carry, both recoil and POI-wise.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I guess I'll stick to my original plan then: 124gr FMJ NATO "Canned Heat" for practice and 124gr JHP +P "Shear Power Plus" Gold Dots for defensive use. Those loads should be about as close to each other as I can get - since they are both 124gr bullets rated at 1200 FPS.

I wonder how those NATO loads can be that hot and not be rated +P?

Not from GA Arms but also try some Winchester 115gr STHP. The most accurate 9mm ammo that I shoot and carry.
