Perhaps next time we will just forget any type of Marshall Plan?

The Marshall plan money mostly went to England and France, building up their government bureaucracies. Germany actually lost money under the Marshall plan due to reparations.

Of course that turned out to be a great deal for Germany, since their smaller and weaker government couldn't interfere with their postwar recovery.

As far as the subject of the post goes.... I'm sure no American has ever used a picture of a German for target practice

Hmmm. I was a little appalled by this until I watched the (absurd and offensive but kind of hilarious) video. Clearly the instructor was joking, and the soldier understood that. It was in poor taste, and perhaps somewhat racist, but I got the impression that it may have been the soldier's first time behind the old MG3, and the instructor was trying to dispel his intimidation/nervousness by clowning around a bit. It certainly didn't look like any sort of serious training to mow down African-Americans in the Bronx.

Had the instructor told the recruit to envision Turkish guest workers or Black Germans downrange, it would have been far more worrisome. That the scenario he presented was straight out of a grade-B '80s American action movie, and that the recruit was laughing, suggests that maybe this incident should not be taken too seriously.

next german training mission: David Hasselhoff is being chased by terrorists through the streets of berlin, and is finally cornered infront of the tecno club where you have been dancing your interpretation of "the robot". you step outside and see KIT wounded with a flat tire, and the Hoff hiding behind the sleek black fender, just then a terrorist raises his rifle preparing to dispatch the pride of Germany, you must jump infront of the bullet, as it is the sworn duty of all Germans to protect the Hoff with your life, NOW ACT!!!!!
