Gettin' the ball rolling.....

I'm still trying to find a 788 30-30 at a price no more than five times the original price. O.k., six. Seven.

Back to the range today.
Had the new rings from the air gun store on it. Better, but still impacting 1-1/4" to the right with all the windage adjustment in the scope.
Came home and proceeded to play musical rifles with scopes. Pulled the 30mm tube 5-20x44 Vortex Viper off my 6.5WSSM and put it on the 6mm CM. I'm thinking the 30mm tube with its much wider range of adjustment will be able to get it zeroed with room to spare.
I then put the Swaro 5-25x52 on the Anschutz .22lr Silhouette and the 4-14x44 Weaver (from the Anschutz) on the 6.5WSSM. I don't think the Swaro on the Anschutz is gonna work out, but we will see. Next trip to the range is scheduled for Friday, weather permitting. There are lots of rounds to be shot to get all these rifles re-zeroed! But, HEY! That's where all the fun is! :D
It's kinda nice living within 15 minutes of an outdoor range. ;)

Well if the error is repeatable with different rings and different scope, what bases are on there? Could it be warped or out of spec? I still bore sight using my neighbor’s chimney with rifle in a vise. Pull the bolt, align with the chimney cap, and dial the scope. Usually within a few clicks.

That's what do. There is a garage about 150 yards away. Has a weather vane on the peak.

Chicken is a good target.

Now, get to the range and get 3 rifles sighted in.

think those swaros only have like 25moa of horizontal....that should still be enough to zero tho....being 12moa plus off wouldnt make me feel good about the set up.

Sometimes you get lemon scopes right from the get go also (ive had that happen way more than ive had them break after use), and even good scope manufacturers have failures. one way to check scope issues is to set the scope for center, then spin it 90 degrees and see if they poi changes accordingly.

Well, I'm back from today's range session. With the Swaro Z5 on the Anschutz there was NO windage adjustment at all today. Definitely a defective scope. Contacted Eurooptic CS and was informed I have to go through Swarovski Optik CS. They are closed for the T-Day holiday until Monday, of course. I left a voice message on their telephone and sent an email through their website. A high profile, high quality optics company with the reputation of Swarovski will make everything better, I am sure. At least now I know what the real problem is!

Oh, BTW, I fired 5 5-round groups of Berger 115 gr bullets being pushed by IMR4955. Group #1 was right at 1" and #2 went into slightly less than 3/4" at 100 yards. :D:D
Everything was downhill from there. Mostly shooter issues - surprise! :uhoh:

But the potential is evidently there!!! :)

UPDATE:
Just received my latest credit card statement and discovered that Boyd's credited my card for the checkering! Well alrighty, then! I take back the critique and unkind things I may have said or implied in regards to the deletion of the checkering.
Boyd's is now officially off my naughty list for this year. ;)

Also, in regards to the Swarovski scope: Turns out I had inadvertantly pulled the windage turret out to the position used to set the dial to zero. When I popped it back in as directed by Swaro CS, it zeroed just fine on the Anschutz! DOH!! :notworthy: A reminder to "read the manual, Stupid!" is definitely in order. Once again, I feel like a maroon.... :notworthy::notworthy::notworthy:
