In a previous thread I noted the rebirth of my old Remington 788 from a .308 Winchester Carbine into a 6mm Creedmore. Well, yesterday's range trip made me look pretty good!

The load tests were 105 gr Bergers, IMR 4451, Lapua brass with Remington 7 1/12 SR-BR primers and an overall length of 2.800". Of the 5 5-round groups, one went to 0.402" (center-to-center) and none exceded 1".

I must say, I had a good day and the rifle made me look really good!

With just over 100 rounds downrange, I would say the barrel is probably broken in now. I have noticed the last couple range trips that decent groups are easier to get.
Now I will go one better and stick my foot in my mouth and jinx it to boot... I tested the trigger pull setting with the RCBS trigger pull scale and it consistently read 3 1/2 lbs. just as I expected. This was one of my go-to hunting rifles. The Timney trigger is adjustable so I readjusted it to 2 1/4 lbs. It will be interesting to see if I find it easier to shoot well. 2lbs. is what my 6.5 Swedish Mauser that I use for silhouettes is set at and I can shoot it from the bench quite well.

UPDATE:
After tweeking the bullet seating depth with the RCBS Precision Mic tool, we found a case base-to-ogive length that gave nice, consistent 5-round groups. So, having recently acquired a Labradar chronograph, I headed to the range early this morning to learn to use my Labradar and see if this load was really as consistent as it appears to be.
Nature Boy's mother, Mother Nature, that is, did not cooperate. It was windy enough that I decided attempting to set up the Labradar on a tripod was not a good idea. I shot one 10-round group and packed everything up and went home. That one group is attached. The lone round to the low-left of the main group was triggered just as I saw the target frame move with a wind gust.

The more I shoot this renewed rifle, the more I love it! :)
I am thinking its time to give it a go at the next Silhouette match.

Great shooting... Love it.... makes me think i should do something with my ole 788..

That is fine shooting; shows to the shooter and the rifle. I can do that sometimes with my .308’s but not all of the time - I always blame the rifle when things go south because well, it feels better to blame the rifle.
