I've made a couple range trips with my new 6mm Creedmoor built on my old Remington 788.
The 788 action was selected because it is the first high powered rifle I ever purchased new (1982) and has been a trusted old friend all these years. I wanted to give her a facelift and an update from .308 Winchester to 6mm Creedmoor with a 25" stainless Lilja barrel with a medium varmint weight contour and a 7.5":1 twist. She's a little nose heavy and I would not enjoy an extended offhand session nor would I want to pack her around all day, but I think she's still pretty sweet.:)

Attached is the first target fired with the starting loads for the 95 grain Berger bullets. Bull #1 (upper left) is the starting load, bull #2 (upper right) is the next load, bull #3 (lower right) is the third load, bull #4 (lower left) is 4th load and bull #5 (center) is the 5th load. The taped over holes in bull #5 is 1 round of each load fired first.

Because these loads are starting loads and this test ladder consists of 15 different loads in 1/2 grain increments, there will be additional range days with just this bullet/powder/primer/brass combination. These results are very promising especially with the limiting factor being the shooter! (me) :uhoh:
The experimentation is the fun part and I am enjoying every minute of it! :D

ETA: Had a little difficulty with the .pdf files. They appear to be working now...

Looks like a nice little charge window around number two.

Nicely done..
Thank you, Jim.
Gonna see if it will stand up to a little tweeking with a few future range sessions. It also encourages trying the Berger 105 grain Target VLD's.
The powder used was IMR4350 with the 95 grainers and I'm thinking 4831 might be a better choice for the heavier 105's.

No experience with the 6 creed but I would bet this one would end up between loads 2-3 .
I like them to overlap just before they break out and get erratic.

Agreed.
It will be interesting to see if there is another load further up the ladder that will dial in, too. Speed is not the ultimate goal with this rifle, I am curious, though. Tweeking load number two could result in a really accurate mild load by itself.

looks good so far, id guess youll will find something up near the top end if your inclined to get that high. Ive generally found good accuracy with that size case (multiple 6.5CMs, and my .250AI) up right near max.
I heard you are getting snow. It helps with tracking but you will need warmer flip-flops.

Summits are supposed to be getting hammered, no snow in the 3500' range.....might be hailing tho, I took a couple of stingers to the face this morning.

mountains in the clouds up there somewhere......

When it gets reall snowy ill break out the Nike flojos and fuzzy socks......dad is about as kitted out as ive ever seen him lol....

anyway......Im actually watching this thread fairly closely, as a 6 Creed might be my next purchase since someone is pestering me to buy my 6.5 heavy.

Man I could almost imagine giving up all my semi autos w/ 10+ for views and country like that. It sure is beautiful. Last thing you guys want is another mainlander yupping it up over there though.....:D

I can make exceptions for mainlanders I like I suppose.....:D

Hey Poper I forgot to ask, did you ever get your scope issues worked out?

Beautiful 788 @Poper. The stock looks great and the stainless compliments it....
Thank you Dusty. It's been a fun and interesting trip so far. I wanted a pretty rifle that is a good shooter. It's looking like Keith Johns has done an outstanding job with the gunsmithing. I really need to hone my shooting skills to live up to this rifle's potential.

Yes, I did. Operator error... I had unknowingly pulled the windage turret out to its 'setting zero' position. Swarovski customer service was kind enough to guide me down the correct path.
I know, I know... READ THE MANUAL, STUPID!!! :what::confused::oops::oops: :uhoh: :uhoh: :notworthy: :notworthy: :notworthy:

Yep, ive done stuff like that before, humble pie is also a lot cheaper than replacing an expensive scope lol... I'd wondered since the picture of the gun still have the Z5 on it,

A couple of new target pics:
T3 is the top end of the ladder for the 95 grain Bergers and IMR 4350.
