You are getting a great, versatile, accurate rifle in probably the best caliber ever created. The .243Win is a true "do-it-all" caliber. Varmints, deer, antelope, coyotes--nothing is safe from you. You can load 75gr Nosler BT's to almost 3100fps or you can shoot 100gr Hornady A-Max to about 2900fps.
For a shouldered, high power rifle, do-it-all caliber, there respectfully is none better.
Reloading is in the equation in the next couple years. With the proper reloads, what kind of accuracy should I expect out to 600-800 yards if I do my part?
Thanks Premium. Didn't get a chance to look at Savage's website until after I posted this.
I bought a Savage .243 this year. This is a plain Jane box magazine pre-accutrigger Savage and was on sale for about $100 less than one with an accutrigger. I took off the Simmons scope and put on a 3-10x44mm Konus and an aftermarket trigger. (Sharp Shooter Supply)
This rifle has shot a 0.47" 3 shot and 0.74 " 5 shot group @100 yrds using 10x. (Berger 80 gr.& Varget)
We did pretty well with the cheapest Federal Powershock 100 gr. too.
It is generally accepted that the maximum distance one should target deer sized game is 300 yards due to physics---bullet mass and velocity drop.
It's a nice caliber to shoot after about 50 rnds. of .30 cal.
Savage guys love these rifles----www.savageshooters.com
