Question...Has anyone had a problem with Savage 110 .243 F series firing after safety being taken off? Scenario-- Pulling trigger with safety on and when the trigger is taken off the rifle will fire.

No, but I've seen it with an Axis. The pin that holds the sear in place was installed backwards, allowing it to walk out, and allowing the sear to move just a little bit if the safety was on. Once the safety came off, the gun would fire.

Putting the pin in correctly fixed the issue.

Never heard of a safety failure on a 2 or 3 position safety for Axis. I prefer the two myself but that is beside the point. Still a good idea to function test the safety now and then with an *unloaded* rifle.

The pin was properly installed. When the gun fired it made a muffled sound. Three people 20 feet away did not wake up when it fired. When the empty casing was ejected from the barrel the remaining cartridge was jammed as it entered the breech. Anyone have a similar issue?

Whoa, it made a muffled sound and the next cartridge jammed? That sounds like a squib... did you check that the bullet isn't lodged in the barrel?

Were these handholds, and were you pulling the trigger while you took the safety off, or did you pull the trigger, release the trigger, take the safety off, and then the gun fired?

The safety was off. The trigger was pulled some time prior to this event. I am trying to find people with similar issues. My 16 year old son was accidentally killed as his best friend handled the rifle. I have been able to find 1 other such occurrence. I want to see if this is a reoccurring issue or isolated incidents.

Yes, if the trigger is improperly adjusted. It is easily adjusted by the consumer, unfortunately it is also easy to do improperly.

It is a common problem with savage rifles when done by inexperienced persons. The gun owners goal would be to adjust for a lighter pull yet does not check for safety function.

I am truly sorry for your loss, but if you think there was something wrong with the rifle and plan to seek legal action against Savage you really need to talk to an attorney. They have teams of investigators that do research for a living. Nothing we tell you will matter in court, if that is the route you plan on going.
