Both excellent rounds in their own right, in their own platforms. (Yes, you can buy a 10MM revolver, and they should be cool as beans, would like to have one.).41 mag is what a 10mm hopes it can grow up to be one day.

It overlaps with .357 energy levels. The 10mm is a fine round but even loaded to it's maximum it does not compare to the .41 mag on up.
As already mentioned, reloading is the way to go because of cost and availability.
A question for the 41 mag owners ..
What personal defense 41 mag. ammo options for use with a 2.5 inch barrel ?
Assuming factory ammo is preferred, I'd just go with the Winchester Silvertip 175 JHP. There's no sense in maxing out the .41 magnum for self-defense against human assailants.
It's unfortunate that there aren't more SD ammo choices for .41 Magnum. Especially considering the original intent of the cartridge's development. I for one would like to see a well designed hollow point in the 210gr range, doing maybe 1000 - 1100fps from a 4" barrel.
Easily done with handloads, but some people don’t want handloads for self-defense.

My FIL has a model 58 that is willed to me. I actually like him, so I can wait.
Yep. That’s where the notion that 10mm=.41 magnum comes from.Basically the same ballistics as the 10mm Winchester 175gr Silvertip round ..
I will stick with my 29 or 20 with UW 180gr Golddots
The 41 Magnum was never intended as a competitor for the 44 Magnum. It was intended to be a better option to the 357 Magnum and it excels at that task!Unuque can be fun. I never understood the appeal of the .41 mag over the .429 (44 mag)? Especially for hand loaders, it just seems like there is a much bigger selection of bullets available. But I do understand that it is just nice to be different some times.

You guys are killin me! Now I'm starting to feel an itch, hate you all...
I am one of the lucky ones who owns a pre lock model 657 Mountain Gun. Keep looking and you just might find one sometime, although they can be a little pricey. The 41 mag is my sentimental favorite round, and I have the Mountain Gun and a Ruger Bisley Blackhawk also in 41 mag. It is an outstanding caliber, and a great one to have in the collection. My son-in-law really likes my Mountain Gun also, and hopes that it will be his some day. Good luck on your search. wyatteI'm a caliber junkie, I love reloading for all my firearms especially the odd balls.
Never had a .41 mag. so it is starting to call out to me.
Problem is the only one I'm interested in is the Smith 657 pre-lock mountain gun. Probably going to take a while to find but in the meantime I'd like some insight from those who own one.View attachment 847879
