glenfield 60

Congratulations on your purchase. I have the shorter barreled version. If I recall correctly it is a Glenfield model 75c. I don't feel like going to look at the serial number right now but if I recall correctly it was made in either 81 or 82. It was the .22 my father had when he died. I also have a mid 90's Marlin version. I like them.

You did great! I would check the buffer and order a replacement. They tend to shatter when they are that old. Stay away from hyper velocity ammo will help. Enjoy.

I will second that recommendation. The old white buffers definitely get fragile with age. And it was common back in the day to use chlorinated carb and brake cleaners to clean guns. That stuff will also make the buffers brittle and break. And Marlin always stated not to shoot hyper velocity ammo in their semi-auto rifles and not to feed them a steady diet of high velocity ammo either.

It’s such a great squirrel gun that they even put a squirrel on it. I love mine. I think I own 4 of them now… kinda up for debate since my grandpa and my kids keep claiming them. My wife’s stainless box magazine variety is also quite nice.

Is it the longer 26” barrel?

I have an 81 Marlin 60 and it has the longer barrel that they reduced to 24 later on.

I have 2, a squirrel stock like yours and a newer stainless, awesome guns... I installed DIP triggers and guards, plus MCARBO Springs on both mine... Huge improvement if your handy...
Have fun with it.

I have one with a squirrel stock and one with an oak leaf stock. One is an ‘82 the other is ‘79. One is a great shooter and the other not so much. I think it was mostly abuse at the hands of my step brother, though he certainly ate good while he had it. I keep one stock and the other has a Nikon Rimfire II. I just bought a new 10/22 and plan to have a shoot off to see which shoots better with the biggest variety of ammo.

I've got a couple and they are great and accurate shooters. Congratulations!

Marlin 60s have some of the worst triggers around and their trigger groups are a joke. Basically two pieces of sheet steel pinned together. Very little that can be done with them.

If Ruger could bring back the Marlin 60 but redesign the trigger group, maybe even to use the 10/22s trigger group, then they’d have a winner. A tube fed semi auto 22 can make a great boys gun or kids first rifle.
