I created the other thread earlier to figure out which 10mm to buy.

I have decided i will go with the Glock. The next question is more for the big Glock fans out there.

Do i choose the Glock 20 or wait for the new Glock 40 Gen4 MOS to come out?

Do i choose the Gen3 or Gen 4 of the Glock 20?

My concern with the new Glock 40 MOS would be after market wolf barrels? Will wolf make one for that platform or just the Glock 20.

I don't know about you, but I'm going to wait for the Gen4 G-34 MOS to come out. As for the new G 20, you may have to stand in a really long line!

(You'll notice that Glock was very careful NOT to mention any trade names when they were talking-up reflex sights.......)

Only you can decide. I have an older Gen3 G20. It fits my needs and I wouldn't want the longer slide and barrel. If anything the smaller G29 would probably be a better choice for me.

But I'm glad to see the added offerings and the interest it is getting from potential buyers.

It really depends on your intended use for a 10mm. I like to hunt and I like a long sight radius, obviously I would want the G40. I have shot a Gen3 G20 a lot. You will enjoy shooting a G20. The G20 has an adequate sight radius to make longer shots. The G20 I have been shooting has sights similar to a Browning 22 rifle. Between the power of the 10mm cartridge and those sights the gun makes you want to take a few steps back every time you shoot it just to see how far you can hit the target. I like shooting the G20 so much when Freedom Munitions has 10mm ammo in stock I order some 10mm ammo just to have an excuse to BBQ and blow up stuff with the 10mm.

Good info guys. I will be using this for target shooting and all-around carry when I'm out in missouri on the ranch. It will be nice to carry this vs my heavy 357 revovler! I would like to wait for the g40 but i do need to change barrels as I want to shoot cast as well.

The .45 caliber longslide G41 has a 3.7oz lighter slide than the G20, FYI. And that's the full weight with no cutouts. (The G41 is almost 2 oz lighter than the G21, even).

One of the reasons Glock20's are popular is that they handle heavy 10mm loadings with such little recoil. I expect the G40 will have pretty close to the same slide/barrel mass as the G41 and a stiffer recoil spring to make up the difference. The felt recoil would be sharper.

This would make it a better "gaming" gun with lower recoil loads, giving it a faster slide cycling time. There's always a bright side.

Eidt: oh wow, I see you posted the other 10mm thread "Which 10mm? I don't want a Glock." I guess I will have to read that, now, to see how the plot twist goes.

Thanks

I did originally post I'm not a glock fan but I'm open minded about it. I'm now just trying to figure out if I should wait for the new gen4 g40 or get the gen4 g20. I wish i could predict if a barrel company will make a aftermarket barrel for the new g40. My xdm target pistol in 45acp I love but cannot change the barrel from precision barrels

I'm not sure if this helps. I primarily shoot cast out of my 9mm and 45ACP Glocks. In fact, I practically stopped shooting all my other handguns - because I have those Glocks shooting very accuracy and with absolutely no lead fouling, whatsoever, with the stock barrels. There's no standard button-cut barrel that can hang with the Glock barrel, AFAIC.

I have not tried cast in my G20, yet. My 40SW endeavors haven't been as good, so I'm holding off. (I have already experienced full-bore lead fouling in a Glock barrel in just a few shots, and spending an hour figuring out how to scrape the chunks out. So I'm waiting til I get my equipment sorted. :)) I think my sizing die is a little tight and my expander plug too small. So I bought a Lyman M die, but I think I got a bad one. It is also too small. Still waiting on Lyman customer service. But I'm confident my G20 will shoot cast just as well as my other Glocks, once I sort out my equipment.

I'd go gen 3 sf. I own a gen 4 and there are some very limited options on recoil springs to go up in weight to use full power load ammo.....but gen 3 has way more options available.

Of course if you don't want or need to change the spring weight gen 4 is good.

I am pretty sure long aftermarket barrels for the 20 SHOULD work in the 40. Is there something different about the 40 slide?

I built a LW 20SF longslide right before I ever heard of the Glock 40. I am extremely happy with that platform. The cool thing, it's Gen 3 and fully compatible and I still have the 20 short slide. Just nice fiber optic sights though.

Oily

The new g40 mos is a longer than normal glock barrel. It isn't the standard g20 barrel

Wolf barrels doesn't currently show any longer barrels for the 10mm that's why I'm asking. Neither does precision for my longer xdm competition. It clouds influence my purchase if I cannot find a barrel for it

Lighter weight thinner slide less durable?

Is the newer thinner slide on the model 40/41 less durable the 20/21 slide? Might be something to consider.

The G34/35/41 slide is different, yeah. It was designed for 9mm/40 S&W. The G41 barrel is not only longer than the G21 barrel, it is also thinner in order to fit in the already too small slide. In fact the G41 barrel weighs exactly the same as the G21 barrel, despite being over an inch longer. (The G20 barrel is almost exactly the same OD as the G21 barrel, so the G40 barrel would also have to be almost equally thinner than the G20 barrel.)

I don't KNOW anything about the G40 for sure. But if it's the same as the G41, you can draw your own conclusions.

If it turns out the G40 is little more than a chamber reamed G35 on a G20/21 frame, I know what I would do. As a handloader, as are a lot of other 10mm shooters, I would buy a G35 and load it warm. And when the G40 comes out, I can maybe even buy a stock Glock heavy recoil spring. There is not a whole lot of difference between factory or mediumish 10mm handloads and hot 40SW. And if you want to explore nuclear 10mm loads, the G20 will still be the ticket.

I have reached max book loads for 10mm with my slowest suitable powder, AutoComp. In the G20, it feels just about the same as shooting my 40SW loads (in the G20) or my G21. If I didn't look in the mag, I wouldn't know what I was shooting, except that my 40SW ammo doesn't always lock the slide back. Double taps all day long, no problem. I guess I have to find some Longshot! The heavier slide, designed specifically for 10mm, is one of the reasons I wanted to get the G20, rather than a 1911 platform or a conversion barrel for my G21.

Having a complete G20 sitting around would kill me. I often find used G21's around my parts for cheap, esp the non SF versions. I would have to buy a G21. Then you at least you have the ability to swap calibers with that extra slide. :) The only part on the frame that you would "need" to change is the ejector.

But I am biased. I love my G21. That's probably the biggest reason I got the G20. It felt wrong to keep my best shooting gun in the safe, rather than the bedside. But man I'd be torn up if my G21 was stolen, lol. :) Now I have the same gun with 2 more rounds, only it isn't my oldest handgun that always delivered "the shot" time after time since the beginning. So it's still replaceable. :)

... oh wow. The irony just hit me. The reason I up and bought the G21 was a theft. I hadn't shot a gun in 10 years. I wondered what I would have done had I been home. And now I lock up my G21. I guess I can thank the burglar for getting me back into shooting. :)

I have said for years that IF Glock brought out a factory long slide 10mm I would buy one.
Placed the preorder for a G40 MOS with my LGS on Tuesday.

Onmilo which lgs? I spoke to two stores today and they couldn't tell me how long before they arrive. They should already be shipping out from glock?

I have a G29, and love it to pieces. Buy some spare barrels from Lone Wolf, and you can shoot .357 Sig and .40 S&W.

Love my G29!!

Uses....

I'm a bit confused by how or what you want the 10mm for.
Do you want a Glock for target, 3 gun, match use? Or for CCW? Or for home/personal defense?
The new Glock 40 10mm models look cool but for standard carry/CCW, Id buy a Glock 20 or 29 gen 04 series. You can add LoneWolf barrels or after market items to those models.
I have a feeling Glock will slowly phase out the gen 03 series. :uhoh:

Got it!....

Ohhhhh...
I see. :D
Well if target or match use is the main purpose, then a Glock 40 should do it.
I don't know much about the E sights & new micro red dots on the scene but I did see a Glock USA sales rep state the MOS 40 line will fit many of the well known electronic sights on the US market.
