Hi everyone.
Has the Glock 17 3rd generation ever had a recall or "upgrade" as they call it?

There was one in 1992 right? Any serial numbers that I should know about?

I may be purchasing a 3rd gen new in box.

Thanks everybody for your help.

What is the serial number series? As long as it doesn't start "Exx", you're good. The E-series "recall" involves some of these pistols breaking frame rails due to an improperly set up machine bending the steel inserts with a 90-degree inside angle. If it is an E-series gun, call Glock, they'll probably replace the frame, they did for me when I broke mine. Oh, and FWIW, mine is a 17 in 9mm and the rail held in for something like 7500 rounds or so before breaking.

Otherwise, get it and shoot it. A 3rd gen Glock 17 is well post '92 so it will have all of the updated parts.

I still don't have it so I have no idea about the serial number, I will surely keep that in mind when I get it, if I do! I am not sure I want that one yet.

Thank you for your help guys

Wanderinwalker, so if I get a Glock 17 3rd generation new in box, it will be post 1992 and be frame problem free? Should I worry about something else or that's about it?

Thank you for your help

Buy a NIB 3rd gen Glock, and don't look back. 3rd gen really is "Perfection."

I believe the 3rd gen guns were released in the late 90's, long after the 1992 recall.

As said, the third generation pistols are well beyond the 1992 time frame. You seem to be preoccupied with 1992? ;)

The E-series frame rail issue occured right around 2002. This is the only 3rd generation issue you need to be aware of as far as I know. All you have to remember is that if the serial number starts with an E, it's part of the affected batch. If it starts with any other letter, you're good to go.

Haha, that's right. I will make sure about the serial number.

Thank you very much for your help!
