A while back I bought an old 1st generation glock 17, I just became aware or a recall from way back then.

My question is, should I send it to them to upgrade and if so what will they do to it.

This gun is currently in almost new condition.

Found this. Maybe it helps, maybe not...check your serial prefix.
GLOCK, INC. Technical Bulletin #920403

April 1, 1992

Glock, Inc. announces a production change of the firing pin safety system. This new firing pin safety system has been installed in all production Glock pistols since November, 1991. A voluntary upgrade is being offered to maintain the Glock tradition of ensuring that all of our pistols are up to the latest standards in 21st century Glock technology.

Most importantly, the components of the new firing pin safety system are not interchangable with the components of the old system and Glock will always strive towards maintaining this feature of interchangability while working to ensure future interchangability.

The upgraded firing pin safety system consists of: the firing pin, firing pin safety, the extractor, the spring loaded bearing and the trigger bar. The upgraded system is applicable only to Glock pistols with the following serial number ranges :

Glock 17 - alpha prefix AA - WF

I'd leave it as is if it is like new. YMMV but it was "Perfect" when it left the factory. Or was it? :D :uhoh: ;)

Hate to break this to you, but that's NOT a Gen 1. It's a Gen 2.

The back strap and front strap on the Gen 1s were smooth. The serrated front and back straps were all Gen 2. Gen 3 added the finger grooves.

It appears to fall into the recall, does the changes help or hinder? I'm not going to get rid of it.

Basically if my car had a recall because the blinker didn't turn off by itself I probably wouldn't fix it.
If the recall was because it randomly caught fire, well.......

Is the parts upgrade beneficial?

I had the recall done to my Gen. 1 G17 in early '93. Worked fine before the recall, has worked fine since the recall. No perceptible change in the operation of the gun.

Thanx some more for the help. I ran into a gunsmith I know and mentioned it. He said it was probably fine but bring it by. I don't know if he's a glock armorer but I know hes a glock guy using them in completion and also the local Pd's armorer.

Since he offered i'll bring it by

If he's a gunsmith, the local PD armorer and uses Glocks in competition, I'd lay odds he's a Glock armorer.

I had the recall done back in '05. I asked nice and they also "upgraded" me to the adjustable sights and replaced a worn slide release. they also kept my old non-drop-free mag and sent me a new one back. I prefer the NDF kind so I called and they sent me a one back. Also sent glock tupperware and cleaning rod. so I got a lot of stuff for my shipping cost (let gunsmith ship it so you can use usps, way cheaper)

The gun shot the same when it came back, so I don't know if it was any safer.
