Should I upgrade my Glock 23?

I've got a 2nd gen Glock 23 and have been considering upgrading to the 3rd gen frame. Cost is around $150. Primary purpose is home defense, I have other guns for cc.
3rd gen advantages:
1) steel inserts in frame (in case I ever wanted to get a 357 Sig barrel.
2) glock rail for mounting a light

Finger grooves - not sure if that is an advantage or not, although I do have a hogue slip on my current one.

Anything else I should consider? Opinions?

No! One of your stated purposes is flawed, as all Glock pistol frames have steel inserts, are you perhaps confusing the old style magazines?

The only reason for the existence of the integral finger grooves is to garner importation points(target grip), thats it, I know of almost nobody that likes them...

The 2nd gens are superior in many Glockers eyes.
Plenty of areas you can upgrade, but there is nothing wrong with that frame.

Just make sure you have the latest mags. The newest versions have worked better/flawless for me.

Keep it and add the Hogue grip ($8).
I would also look at replacing mag followers with factory part and mag springs (extra power) with Wolff springs if they are worn. As to light, I use the light in non-firing hand over pistol for my Glock 27 (no light rail).

Here's the frame inserts that were added in ~1997. Beefed up the polymer frame with the insert.

I've got 4 mags, 2 from 1991/2, and 2 from the "10 round" era.

Don't do it. I have a G30 (gen 2.5). Thought I needed a rail for a light. NOT. Get a good tactical light and learn the HARRIES TECHNIQUE (Google it). Still have the 30 and its still my go-to gun.
