My EDC glock 17 shoots about 3-4 inches high at 25 yards. Not left or right at all, perfectly center just high. Trijicon night sights. Ive put close to 100,000 rounds through this gun in the 7 years Ive had it and it has always been like that and Ive learned to adjust my point of aim to hit exactly where I want. My main question is why does it shoot high? What distance are glocks normally zeroed for? Is this normal or is it true that POA vs POI varies from gun to gun? Im buying adjustable sights because I got a membership at an outdoor range now that my ability is no longer being tested at the 25 yard indoor range. I will be shooting at 50 yards now that I can get 20 out of 20 rounds in a 5 inch circle at 25 yards every single time. I feel that I have excellent accuracy with my glock. Do you agree? Also, is it time for me to get a new barrel?

Did you get the right sights when you put on the night sites? Sounds like you need a taller front sight.

Yeah they were the right sights. Maybe they zero at like 10 yards or something. I dont know because I havent shot at a target that close since before I got this gun other than reflex rapid fire.

Don't need a new barrel, that's for sure, if it's still shooting good groups.

Glocks and their polygonal bores - I don't know if it is even POSSIBLE to wear them out. I've never heard of anyone wearing out a Glock barrel.

Now, I DO know some guys who have a spare rifled barrel for their Glocks so they can (more safely) shoot lead bullets.

But never heard of anyone wearing them out.

If your shooting at bulls then the target hold illustrated on the right should put the rounds 3-4" higher than the top of the sight so it hits the target center bull. If you are using a center hold like on the left with sights regulated like shown on the right you will be shooting high on the target. This can be one of the reasons a person shoots high when using center target hold on silhouettes and other lesser defined targets than bulls.

Yeah, what Steve said.

Here's another idea, gonna throw my two cents worth in.
Glock 17, 9mm, what grain bullet are you using?
I had a Taurus once that constantly shot low with 115gr, as I went up in bullet weight, the POI slowly crept up as the heavier bullet got to "ride the recoil" for a fraction of a second longer and would hit higher. So, if you're not already using 115gr, try them and see if that makes a difference.

That is good, but I don't know if I'd call it excellent...but then, I'm not sure what the accuracy potential is with a G17. I'd expect a G19 or G34 to be able to group in half of that at 25 yards...certainly inside 3"

A 5" circle would be respectable at 50 yards

I shoot 5 inch shoot-n-c targets, always at 25 yards. My hold is similar to the pic on the left except that I would be holding 2-3 inches lower than the target. I usually shoot 115 but 124 seems to be about the same.

Inside 3 inches??? From benchrest or standing? Ive never used a benchrest and if guys are getting three inch groups at 25 yards with a glock Ive got some work to do lol.

Standing, using two hands. But I wasn't shooting a G17, I was shooting a G34 that belonged to a friend...that's why I said I didn't know the accuracy potential of a G17.

I can't do it at 50 yards, but was shooting with someone who could a while back...but then he can shoot 1" groups off a rest at that distance (with a SIG X-5)

Oh ok. Yeah the longslide would probably help. Ive never been much of a bullseye shooter anyway. Most of my training has been for combat accuracy and I shoot pretty fast at 25 yards. I went outside and took my time and got three out of three shots on a 3 inch shoot-n-c at 25 yards. I think adjustable sights will help me a lot. My full rail TRP Operator has adjustable sights and Im much more accurate with it. Its probably a more accurate gun in general but the adjustable sights really help.

It isn't the length of the barrel, MY G19 is more accurate than the last couple of G17s I've shot. It has to do with chamber dimensions...the G17 used to come with a looser chamber than a G19

I had to replace the sights on a number of Glocks

I have replaced the front sight on many of the non-adjustable sight Glocks. Ameriglo has a killer front sight height calculator for Glocks.

http://www.ameriglo.net/sights/calculator

Not only is the calculator extremely accurate but the sights are super high quality.

It's news to me that the G19s came with tighter chambers than the G17s Never heard that before this very minute. IF anybody on this forum can consistently place every shot in a 3" circle at 25 yds., offhand, I might be willing to travel to see that performance!!!

IF the money's right on the wager, I'm willing to fly. I'm in GA. I'd sure like to see that kind of shooting. Had a guy on another forum claim that he could shoot "10-shot, 1" groups, @ 25 yds, offhand, 'all day long.'" I offered a $5k wager and his response was that his religion precluded his wagering. ;)

I'm not talking about an occasional three-shot group; I'm talking about lots of shots, with all of them being inside a 3" circle, which, of course, would be tighter than a 3" group.

My G17 does the same thing. Average 4" high at 25 yards. This is normal according to Glock. This is the reason for the 6 o'clock hold that Steve showed.

While you're there, get him to teach you to shoot some of those groups inside a 1" circle at 15 yards (that would be .62 groups if you're shooting a .38 or 9mm).

Should make it easy to get 3" at 25 if you can do under 2" at 15 getting off a round every 3/4 of a second.

at 15 yards, standing and holding the gun in both hands, shooting DA, I work with clients to keep 5 rounds inside 1", with the goal to have them all touch, while taking their time shooting

A reasonable goal is everything inside a 2" group shooting at a pace where the trigger doesn't ever stop moving...so about 2 rounds in 1.5 seconds
