I've given up on my Glock 17. I just can't shoot it accurately try as hard as I have. I've put aftermarket sights on it and, for whatever reason, I do not shoot it accurately. Time to move on and get something I do enjoy shooting.

I don't want to sell it privately. I'd rather just trade it on toward the purchase of another gun. It is a G17, Gen 4, FDE.

What range would be reasonable for me to get from a gun dealer as a trade toward another purchase?

Yes sell it privately.. you should be able to get 500 for it. FAR MORE than you would get as a trade in.

Expect half its retail value toward a trade in of similar retail value.

Maybe up to 65% if you trade up to something significantly more expensive.

Expect to put at least 3 hours work into getting good bids, and a stressless auction on Gunbroker.

$250-$300 at a dealer.

$375-$425 here in the classifieds.

You can figure on half of what you paid for it. A dealer then will ask 90 percent of the NIB price for it. Have you had another shooter try it? Have you tried other brands of ammunition? Four inch groupings are about average for Glocks.

Trade in value $250-300. Police trade in glocks are going for $285-400ish.

I'd try to sell it privately. Either in the sale section here, gunbroker or at a gun show. I'd guess you could sell it to a dealer at a gunshow for $50-100 more than you would get at a store since the buyer knows that there are other buyers in the room.

In my area, you could get $450+ on a private sale for a lightly used Gen4 with night sights. Trade-in would get you around $300-$350

Install a $20 Grip Force Adapter and that will change the grip angle just enough to possibly make a difference in how you shoot that gun. It made a world of difference on my G19 which always naturally pointed muzzle high until I added the GFA. If the grooves bother you ten minutes with a Dremel will solve that problem.

The OP's G-17 is a Gen4 so he can install one of the beavertail backstraps that came with his gun, instead of having to buy a Grip Force Adapter.

My 17 is a Gen3 and I think I'm going to try the GFA since I just got the worst "Glock bite" this weekend from holding too high on the grip, which I have to do to get it to impact on top of the front sight.

Why don't you want to sell it privately?
Just put a free add in Arms list. Add a photo if you can. Ask about $500. Put in any
terms you like such as cwp required or local sale only. Sell the gun. No big deal.

I don't want to sell it privately. I'd rather just trade it on toward the purchase of another gun.

I felt this same way when I was trying to be rid of a Walther PPK/s that I wanted to be rid of. I sold it at a humongous loss to an FFL at a gun show.

Since then, I have been a little more reluctant to take such a bath on any guns I want to part with. These days I try to avoid buying brand new guns. I prefer to let some other eager soul take the depreciation. Doing that I can usually score a sweet deal on guns that I want, and if I have a change of heart, I can typically sell the gun either at a gun show or using armslist, for close to what I paid for it...sometimes even enough to cover my time and gas :). The guns I buy new that I fall out of love with I will usually just keep, or trade even to another private party who has something I want.

Selling a gun to a gun store/dealer is going to net you the least return. Trading in on something else is going to be only slightly better. Selling a new gun for 80% of retail to a private party is a good option. Trading even is probably the best option for you, but would require more work on your end trying to find the right person to trade with.

Why don't you want to sell it privately? As pointed out, you're going to get screwed wholesale trading it in at your LGS.
Put it on Armslist at $450,firm. It'll sell quick. Arrange a meet at someplace very public, maybe bring a freind, and have some blank receipts ready to fill out. It's not difficult or complicated, and surely much less of a PITA than shipping it with a gunbroker sale.
