Glock 21 SF mag catch problems

I WAS the proud owner of the new 21SF until I was stripping the wpn down for cleaning and the mag catch fell at my feet. Now that I ask around this is getting to be a regular problem. According to Glock Inc. in Georgia it happens enough that they have a repair kit they will send out IF you can find a glock armor that will do the repairs for you. The armorers I have found only want to "pop the old piece back in". I am contacting Glock to find out how much it will cost to replace the ambi-safeties with a regular safety. Does ANYONE have any advice (other than don't buy Glocks), that's already decided, or information on price for this type of work? It really sucks that Glock has the parts to fix the problem but the people that go to their classes and represent the Glock name don't want to do anything more than put the old piece back in. Haven't heard of that problem before. Sure hope it doesn't happen to mine at some point. Hope you're able to eventually find someone to fix it. Can you send it to Glock instead of using an armorer?
 
Call up Glock and bitch. They have been know to do a frame swap to standard mag catch on the ambi SF guns.
 
UPDATE: Just got a call from Glock Inc and REAPER called it dead on. FED EX will be here with in the next 72 hrs to pick up my 21sf and Glock is going to replace the entire frame & ship it home, top priority & turn around, at no cost to me. This is the first problem of ANY type I have had out of any of the Glocks we own and it really shook me up. As for cleaning a Glock there SideArmed, I do out of concern for the badguy that I may need to shoot. Wouldn't want some poor mugger,murder,all around dirt bag getting a nasty infection from a dirty weapon or dirty felon repellant that I may choose to load with. I never liked that ambi mag release button on the 21SF, I had one that stuck open after releasing the magazine, a real PIA, Glock took care of me no questions asked.
 
I have an ambi safety 21 SF . The only problem that I have had is the magazine release would stick occasionally. I spoke with a friend of mine that works in a custom shop and he advised me to shave off a little bit of material from the mag release, on one of the inside edges. I went home and shaved the mag release where he showed me, and it worked great. Its good that Glock is going to take care of it.

What happened to the mag release button and the mag release spring when the catch fell out ?
 
Sapper771, Both sides of the release stayed in place. The actual locking mechanism from inside the grip itself fell onto the floor at my feet. Nothing broken, cracked, slipped or damaged in ANY way. The ONLY thing I can figure is this. From the time I got this 21 for Christmas 09, when I pressed the mag release on either side, that side would stick and I would need to press the opposite side to get the button to relelase. When it did there would be a LOUD click, the stuck button would release and all would work fine until the next mag drop then repeat of same problem till this piece fell out. I have put less than 100rnds through my Glock when this happened so if your mod 21 is doing the same thing and you carry it for defense, PLEASE have it looked at for your own sake if not for your families. I called and spoke with Fred at Glock Inc at 1-770-432-1202. OUTSTANDING service & very professional. He was a pleasure to speak & deal with. It's a shame that more companies don't stand behind their produsts as Glock is doing. I am impressed.

Once a year, I take all of my Glocks (and some friends' too) down to individual pieces and clean/lube and assemble back together.

I notice buildup of black caked fouling on internal parts, but they still work well.

One old Glock had so much fouling in the striker tube, that it had light primer strike issues. A good cleaning and it never had another problem.

glad you had a good cust serv experience with glock.

i did as well the first time i called for ejection probs, but when they sent me the wrong part, they refused to send the right one out. i was told that it was because i'm not a glock armorer and the 1st guy shouldn't have sent the parts to me. not cool.

whenever i've dealt with springfield armory or s&w, they apologize and ship out the part immediately-no questions asked.

glock's cust serv is hit or miss, depending on who you get on the phone--to me that means it sux.
 
^^^all i need is a 9mm extrctor, and they sent me a 40cal one which is causing failure to return to battery issues.


you're right though, if i did have to send it back, i would let my dealer do it as glock only pays return shipping.

considering how little it costs to make a glock ($75), that's pretty lame.
 
I have a 21 SF and have had no issues. My mag catch is metal. A buddy of mine is having issues and he thinks his may be polymer. Is this so? I got one of the first one's to hit Austin. The dealers were tired of me calling. My friend's is only a few months old. Is this an issue only to newer one's? Thanks.
 
My buddy went to http://glockparts.com/ and ordered all 3 parts for the mag catch. The mag release spring is the old style pictured (flat). It's a fraction of the cost of sending th gun in and a fraction of the time
 
Mine's an early SF, ambi, picatinny. Mine definitely looks metal, too.
 
Broke mag release....

Well, I pushed the ambi mag release on my 21SF today, and had the mag release metal part fall out with the mag. I have no idea how to fix it. I'm going to call Glock and see what they can do to remedy the situation. But, I have now lost ALL confidence in my 21SF. Great shooting pistol that I loved up until now, but how can you rely on a pistol that you may or may not be able to reload? Any others have this happen recently? How did Glock handle it? I've heard of frames being replaced, but not to happy about the possibility of mis-matched serial numbers.
 
Just out of curiousity, were you ejecting a loaded mag when it happened?

The way the ambi mag release works, the more loaded the mag is, the more pressure you need to exert on the button. I have gotten into the habit of pressing up on the floorplate while removing a full mag.
 
Yes, it was a fully loaded mag. I pushed mag release, mag was released and was removed, but it didn't return to center...just kind of stuck to the opposite side. When I barely touched the other side to try to recenter the mag release it fell out.
