Glock 21 vs. 21SF

We all knew this was going to happen.

For those of you not familiar with the G21SF, it is a new version of the Glock 21 13+1 rd .45ACP. It features slightly slimmed down grips, ambi mag release, and a full length picatinny rail. The old G21 mags will only work in the old G21, but the new G21SF mags work in both models.

For those that have shot or handled both, which do you prefer?

Being ambi myself, I appreciate the ambi release. I'm so used to the original G21 grip size that the reduction doesn't interest me, and I'm flat out confused by the full length rail.

Which of these two Glock .45's do you personally prefer and why? Do you think the G21SF a good replacement for the original G21 or do you see it as an alternative for those will smaller hands and lefties?

For the sake of conversation, please leave the "neether cuz my XD foor-five is the cooooolest " comments out of this thread. There are some of use that still like the Glock better. Thank you.

My hands are a bit big so the G20/21 standard gripframe really doesn't bother me all that much. I have both a G21 and G20. I doubt I'll get a 21SF. Handled one at a gunshow the other day and it really didn't impress me as any marked improvement in the way of girth. I imagine people who are just barely hanging on with the standard G21 might like the newer gun better.

I believe Dr. Lunde described the different as subtle and that's about right.

There are some of use that still like the Glock better.

I have big hands but short fingers, so I will probably

add the new 21SF to my stable. Yes, the difference is subtle, but I could tell it the instant I picked up the weapon. In fairness, all the Glocks have too much "palm swell" on the grip for my taste, but I love Glocks! The 21sf reduces the grip just enough to warrant a purchase. I still love my 21 and my 17, but I will very likely buy the 21sf.

I just bought a regular Glock 21 this week, so for now it will do everything i want.

I don't want to have to worry about getting the correct magazine for the 21SF, plus there are a ton of used/LE 21 mags out there cheap.

As a former G21 owner, I'd give the newer model a try. But really, this is what they should have been focusing on rather than R&D on the .45GAP - A higher capacity .45 autopistol that actually fits most shooter's hands.

I think all their .45s fit a purpose, including their gap models. Im looking forward to the SF. It may be the one double glock set I have since I already have a regular 21. I hope it does well !

The only thing I notice on the 21SF is a lighter palm swell which makes the angle a bit more pleasant. It is thinner, but only noticable when doing side by side. I'd guess it at about 80% as wide as a standard G21. I like them both, I'll admit.

I agree on the comment about work towards a slimmer Glock 21 versus developing the GAP round. It's another nobody in the flooded caliber market as it is, in my personal opinion. Then again, I have a conspiracy about companies developing rounds with their name in it to increase marketing for said company (.40 Smith & Wesson, .204 Ruger, .45 Glock Action Pistol... I guess .45 Colt is as bad, though).

I haven't handled the 21SF as of yet. But if I ever dump the my G21 it will be for a XD45. Glock would have done well to have tackle the big grip problem long ago. :banghead: I have never been all that fond of my Glock; it's a good tool and gets the job done, which is all I ask of it. But it don't make me feel all cozy. I like my sons XD45! I suspect that Glock is a day late and dollar short.
