Today I rented a Glock 17 and a Glock 24C. I was firing CCI Blazer 115 gr. from 17 and CCI Blazer 165 gr. from 24C. I enjoyed shooting the 24C more. The recoil with it was a little up and back, while the recoil with the 17 was up and to the left.

Does anyone own a 22C and a 24C, or has anyone done a lot of shooting with both of them? I am thinking about buying a 22C, but first would like to know how it's recoil compares to the 24C. (The ports on the 24C let the gases go straight up while the ports on the 22C let the gases out at an angle on both sides of the barrel.)

Hi

I would recommend that you shoot the compensated handguns in an confined space first. If you only intend to use it as a range gun it is OK. But if you are going the use it for selfdefence then I would think hard. The compensated guns have a hel of a shockwave that is murder to your ears in a room. I have shot compensated gun under a roof with no ear protection and I had a ringing in my ears for days after.

They also tend to make more of a flash at night that blind you for a good couple of seconds. A firefight is measured in fractions of seconds so I think that a couple of second it to long for me.

I have a Glock 24P (2nd gen frame before they changed the designation to C for their ported guns). The porting on the 24 is canted forward and causes the front sight it become sooty and disapear. I replaced the sights with JP Custom Double-Ring sights to eliminate the issue and it works pretty well.

The 22C is a little snappier as the ports are less effective and you've got a lot less nose weight. A good compramised is the 35 or 35C that replaced the 24 in Glock's line-up as they're competition gun.

It's a great target gun but for "serious" work I prefer all the gas going out the end.

I have a 22C that I switch back and forth between .40 and .357Sig. both ported and un-ported. The porting seems quite a bit more noticeable with the .357Sig. I agree that the ported barrels are not ideal for self-defense or tactical use, but there is something wicked-cool about the vertical flames  . Drop-in OEM barrels are relatively inexpensive and make the 22C flexible.
