glock 23

I have the chance to pick up a Glock 23 new for a used price. When on other forums they seem to love to trash them with the Kaboom threads. Glock 23 owners tell me how you have fared, and your opinions will be welcomed. The xd does not feel good in my hand so we can stop that thought before it starts.

I own 2 Glock 23s and have put several hundred rounds through each one. It is probably my favorite semi-auto that I own. I have not experienced any problems with mine. Though they are the E-series, they were not affected by the slide rail troubles per Glock. To avoid a kaboom, don't shoot lead bullets through a Glock barrel and if reloading just be cautious not to over charge the cartridge. Before purchasing, you might want to check the serial number of the gun to see whether or not it is affected by the deficient slide rails. Otherwise if you decide to purchase the G-23, I'm sure you'll be satisfied.

I've owned a second generation Glock 23 for many years and have never had a problem. If its not on the "list" I wouldn't worry about it. Do take jrpeterman's advice and never shoot lead bullets through it or over pressured reloads. I only use new factory ammo in all my guns just to be on the safe side. Mike

My Glock 23 performs 100%. Have several full cap magazines and shoot factory paramilitary ammo which I do not pick up after shooting. I think the ctg is too hot to reload, even with jacketed bullets. YMMV.

I had no problems w/ the 23 I owned. There is just something about the utility of the mid size Glocks that makes them fun to shoot & own.

i've never had any problems with my G23. it's accurate and it conceals easily.

Two years with the G23 and no kaboom yet! Love the little gun. Very comfortable to shoot, dead on accuracy, fairly easy to conceal. Use 180 grain jacket bullets, reload my own. If I screw up, any other hand gun will be equally likely to kaboom.

If you choose to reload, keep to jacketed ammo and use a mid-range powder, such as Unique. I loaded a couple of double charges just to see if it was possible. It is, but if you inspect all casings after charging and before seating bullet, a double charge is obvious (I use a turret press, but use it as a single stage, perform one operation at a time). I use the same practice for .357magnums, weigh each charge and inspect all rounds prior to seating bullets).

Had one for about 1,000 rounds. Did intitially have some reliability issues with two pre-ban mags. New springs solved that entirely. I first considered accuracy to be so-so, but later realized that was abit unfair as I was comparing it to service size guns while the 23 is really a size notch below that.

In general I liked it but sold it because higher ammo cost of the .40 compared to the 9mm and it was not really a fun gun for me to put 200 rounds through in a session like my later G-17 was.

In addition to the cautions about reloads and lead bullets, don't rechamber the same round over and over to avoid setback. Also avoid early Federal loads, both 180's and 155's. They did have some weak brass in the unsupported area. Don't know the vintage. I think it's a great pistol and I have ultimate confidence in mine. I use other guns for plinking, the Glock for carrying. That trigger safety is hard on my index finger after about 30 rounds.

i have a lot of handguns..the one i carry all the time is my g.23...i never had a problem, evertime i pull the trigger it goes bang..never failed me once...

I love my 23. I have a couple of thousand plus rounds through it and not a single problem. A very versatile gun.

Only about 800 rounds but it's still in one piece. No failures of any sort.

I'd personally avoid HydraShoks, esp the older ones, in the Glocks but I feel very well armed with a G23 and 155 Gr Gold Dots.

It's my standard carry gun. Great shooter, compact and light enough to wear all day, and good terminal effect. Also easy to convert to 357 SIG with an aftermarket barrel. Get it!

The Glock 23 is and will remain one of the top choices for personal defense for some time to come. An awesome and controllable package in a lightweight and tight little package. Stick to factory ammo and it will take care of you. Its definately one of my favorites.
