Two years with the G23 and no kaboom yet! Love the little gun. Very comfortable to shoot, dead on accuracy, fairly easy to conceal. Use 180 grain jacket bullets, reload my own. If I screw up, any other hand gun will be equally likely to kaboom.
If you choose to reload, keep to jacketed ammo and use a mid-range powder, such as Unique. I loaded a couple of double charges just to see if it was possible. It is, but if you inspect all casings after charging and before seating bullet, a double charge is obvious (I use a turret press, but use it as a single stage, perform one operation at a time). I use the same practice for .357magnums, weigh each charge and inspect all rounds prior to seating bullets).
