Glock 23

i was at my local sporting good store the other day, to find a small carry piece to add to my collection. i ended up buying a keltec pf9. after i'd done my shopping, i looked around at the other items and came across a glock 23. this one had no accessory rails, and the grip wasn't grooved like the ones i'm used to seeing. it also had night sights. the owner of the store said he'd sell it to me for $350. is this a good deal, or is something fishy going on?

Not sure if about the price, but thats just an older Glock...I bought my first M 23 in 97 or so, and it was pre finger groove...my second one was purchased in 99 and it had the finger grooves.

Thats not a bad price for a Glock like that. It's probably a 2nd generation model.

Standard plain vanilla second generation. If it appears to be in good shape, I'd say it's a fair price. Some people, myself included, tolerate the fingergrooves but secretly lust after the older second generation frames. Just about every factory fingergroove I've tried (Glock and others) have not fit my hand properly.

Keep in mind if the night sights are the same age as the gun, they are nearing the end of the Tritium life expectancy.

I'd buy it were I in the market for it. That's a fair price, and I personally much prefer the 2nd gen Glocks myself. I've a second gen G19 that made me a believer in that not every factory stock Glock has to feel quite like a brick.

Seems like a good price to me. I carried an older G23 - like you're describing - as a CCW for years.

Still have it and still love it.

I had a second gen 23 and loved it, until I shot a third gen. The finger grooves happen to fit my hands perfectly and I shoot is much better. If the grooves don't fit your hand, their are plenty of used second gen's out there.

That's about the going rate for police trade-ins. If it was in better shape than that, then not a bad deal at all.

That is true. If the sights are dim, you might even be able to negotiate a slightly low price. With nightsights all you get (on the average) is about 12 years of good bright service, then they really should be replaced. This is a simple thing to do and Meprolight nightsights are about $70 from many online venders.

I just sold a 23 that I bought in 97 still in box never fired. I got $250 for it. I can still buy it back. I'm thinking I should have kept it, but I've been hearing bad things about the old 40 Cals going kaboom! I put the $250 towards a new 19.

This is one of the disadvantages of the internet. Frequently (most of the time, really), people who have problems post it on every board they can find. One complaint has the impact of 10, a dozen or so out of a million guns ends up looking like hundreds. I'm not say it doesn't happen, but the incidence is quite rare. By far and large, most of the kabooms are with reloaded ammo. That tells you something. Either somebody wasn't careful with his loads or reloaded brass one time too many. Sometimes a bad batch of commercial ammo is the cause. The newer Glock .40s supposedly have a little less generous throat on the barrel, so that may improve things.

Sounds like one I know a buddy is selling in the northern area of CA.

If it is, it is a good buy. If not it is still a good buy.

There are many on sale right now, used in the Sacramento area for about $100.00 more at a gun store.

i would go for it if that is something that you want, and if it was me and the sights were getting dim then i would add a set of xs 24/7 ns and have a very nice package for about any application.

Its not a bad price. my local shop has a 23 with finger grooves (3rd gen) for 399, but it is as used as ive ever seen a glock for sale, pretty beat.
I like the finger grip models better, but i also think the glock is a better platform in 9mm personally. my buddy just got a g19 and i really like it.

I`ve found a newer model Glock 22 .40 S@W for $400.00,after my recent purchase of $519.00 for mine, while looking for some grips. Actually the guy had 2 of them. The one that you`re refering to is a little old for costing $350.00 That`s just my opinion.

I actually prefer the models that do not have the newer grip, some like it and it is what is offered now. I'd buy that 23 for $350.00, if it was me.

I wonder if that second gen. Glock has any add ons ?? I shoot a third gen model 23 with an extended mag and slide release and I love them both !!

Some prefer the Gen2 grip. I have a Gen3 Glock 23 and really like it. It's my personal carry/HD gun.

$350 is a very decent retail price, assuming the n/s still glow and it has two 13rd mags. Geographic variations will exist so you need feedback from people locally. If the the n/s don't glow and/or the mags are 10rd, that retail used price is still very decent, but the n/s are now just steel 3-dot sights, which are still MUCH better than the Glock stock plastics, and you'll shell out $30 for the mags. FTF deals are about $375-$452 depending on where you live.

If it came with two 13rd Glock FML mags, serial numbers matched, n/s were still good, I did not have my Gen3 Glock (paid $485 "used", <100rds) and was in good shape, I'd likely get it.

i read everyone's response, so i went back today to put a deposit down......sold! dammit. so i put a deposit down on a mossie 5 instead.
