How does the grip on the Glock 29 compare with ah..... anything? :banghead:

I have a Glock 20, is the grip comparable? (too big around for me for comfort by the way)
How many fingers hang off the bottom? (this one had no extension on the mag)
It also had a rubberized coating on the grip, is that factory? Pros & cons?
Do they have one with nite sites? (this had white outline in rear with white dot)
Also had slight finger grooves in the grip. Are they all that way?
My old carpool rider mentioned that he had a small Glock something in .40 S&W with maybe an finger extension on the mag. Are the grip sizes the same for the .40 S&W & 10MM?

Looking for something small with 200 grn Double Tap power that might want to go for some walks or mtn bike rides in the woods. Most likely the gun would be exposed to some good old workout sweat. Thought this gun might fit the bill.

My rant......

Went to Gander Mountain in Williamsport, PA looking for one. None in stock, I asked the guy if guns from their other stores could be sent here. Yes, no problem. So I headed back home, 1 1/2 hours give or take. Decided to take a ride to the Binghamton, NY store, about the same distance away from home. They always seemed to have a bigger selection of handguns than than the PA store. Knowing full well that I can't purchase a handgun being a boarder crosser. Lo and behold, they had one under the glass. :) Used Glock 29, rubberized grip coating, white outline/dot sights, $469. Not sure if that is a great price or not. Just looking anyway. I asked the lady if I could take a look at it. She kindly said, "Can I see your permit." "Yeah", so I dug in my wallet and even before I could get it out of the protective sleeve, she said, "We don't except PA permits." :what: I only want to check the grip size, I know I can't buy. "Sorry" :fire: I told her I drove all the way from Williamsport, the guy down there said a transfer would be fine yada yada. "Sorry" :fire: :fire: I put my hand up, wave it goodbye and said "Forget it". Walking away mumbling to myself, f'in this and that, "I'll never buy anything in those stores again". :cuss: :banghead: :fire: :cuss: All I wanted to do was look, touch, feel, then do a transfer to the home state. Nothing against the lady, she was probably following the rules. I hope it sits under the counter for a long long time.

Is this a state thing or just a Gander Mountain policy?
I've had the walk your newly purchased gun to the door and good ridence feel from the store in Dickson City, PA with a S&W 1006 purchase.

Why why why? :banghead:

The 29's grip is the same as the full sized 20's, except it is a little shorter. The longer mags that come w/ the 20 will also function in the shorter 29.

Glocks do not come from the factory with any type of "rubberized" grip coating.

I find the G29 a little easier to grip. It seems a wee bit smaller than my G20. You can get them with night sites and they do have the finger grips like the G20. I've added a Pierce extension (no additional rounds version) and it helps keep my pinky on the gun.

I put a Hogue rubber on my G20 and I seem to be able to grip it a whole lot better than without it. It makes all the difference in the world to me.

Just don't go there again. I went to a gun shop once and got chatting with the bobo behind the counter and it was obvious he knew squat about squat. I told him I had several .40's and I was looking at the SW99 and he was like, "What do you need that for"? Sheesh, I thought to myself. Maybe I would like another handgun to add for my collection I told him. Retards like that are everywhere. I look at it as a lesson in patience and tolerance. Oh yeah, I won't be going back there again. Some people just have sticks up their butts 24/7.:banghead:

I always hated the grip on the G20-21 until I did this to mine. Made a whole new gun out of it.

People with small and medium glove sizes woul dbe fine with a g29. A Pearce mag base plate will make it very comfy. It will be about G19/23 length and as wide around as the G20. I cary my 29 alot.

gander Mtn NY policy is consistent. All about ATF and NYSP regs for audit purposes. The counter lady did her job. Gander Mtn will transfer to your home state store for free. The price in your home state may be higher than the price you see at the counter. This is one of those realities to remember. IF there is a sale, then you get the tag number, the serial number, the sale price, the promo code, and call your guy at your local Gander Mtn., and everything is ok. This is not true for regular price guns, though.

It is a pain, but can be a fun exercise in tenacity to get the best deal. You have to be patient. I went through this before, and bought a hard-to-find Colt 1911, and a few other revolvers the same way.

Gander Mtn is a retail franchise, so their company regs and attorney regs protect the operations of the stores. Even if they walk you out with the gun, it is no different from WalMart's policy.

IF you like comforts of a small shop, but slightly higher prices, you can do away with the perceived indignity of being walked out of the store. To me, as long as I get a great deal, I can tolerate it.

I always get a laugh when I buy a used gun without a box, and the employee walks me out to the main door, gives me the gun, shakes my hand, and I stuff it in my belt band. Then people around just stare at both of us; some with some level of surprise or discomfort. THAT is one funny reason why I still buy stuff at Gander Mtn; for the giggle factor.

Ok, went to a local gunstore today just to see what they had and get a price check on a Glock 29 with nite sites. None in stock but it came out to $609. I held off because I'm supposed to be heading out to Grice's for their big 3 day sale next weekend. More guns than you can imagine! I'm sure they will have one that I can hold. I did get a feel for a Glock 26 9x19mm. Felt terrible with the factory mag then he added one with an extension. I think it added 2 more rounds. What a difference. Turned it into a whole new gun.

What all did you do to your's Desertscout? It looks like it has that coating on it and the grip has been reformed. Grip & trigger guard are completely different than mine.

What are you guys seeing for prices with fixed, adjustable, & nite site versions?

The G20 in the picture has had a complete grip reduction, rounded the trigger guard, stippling, night sights, extended slide release, extended mag release and a 2.75 pound trigger.
A couple of other things that I have started doing is a more positive extended mag release and forward "cocking" grooves pictured below:

My beef with the Glock 29/30 grip isn't whether it is too big but that it is too small. I guess I have rather large hands because they take to the largest autos rather well. The HK USP 45, Desert Eagle, and my pet Glock 20 all fit me rather well. In fact the Glock 20 fits and points very instinctively for me, so much so that the Glock 29/30 was a natural first choice for CCW concerns. But handling one I discovered the grip was too short and allowed my pinky to hang off of it, making an otherwise very fine feeling grip feel very blocky to me. I'll probably still get one if I can find a grip plug or something to extend the backstrap about 1/2 an inch and get some basepads to do the same. I already have literature in bound from Pearce to see if they can work some magic for me.

Sorry to hear about your gun store incident. Good luck in finding and making your purchase.

You don't happen to have a full port side pic of that enhanced Glock?
There 3 different guns posted. Which one did you want to in particular? You can see several different ones on our site at: www.rosssportinggoods.com
I also have a bunch of other pics on another site that I can post here if you want.

If I were to buy a Glock, the G29 would be it. I qualified with a G29 rental for my TX CHL & made obscenely an obscenely small group on the official target.

Having 10mm power in such a small package really appeals to me, and the recoil was pretty easy.

What I'd really like to see is an Officer's ACP sized 1911 in 10mm.

I paid $596.40 (out the door) for a NIB Glock 29 with night sights here from a local FFL.

The G29 should be identical to the G30 ... I see a lot more G30s in gun shops than G29s so you should be able to find a G30 to fondle somewhat easily.

The Glock 29 is a beast!

I love this gun. Small and extremely powerfull. Though it weighs more than it looks. The grip is basically the same width as the 20 but is shorter. They do make an extension piece for it though and it fits on the bottom of the magazine to give it more grip. Double Tap or Buffalo Bore ammo is the only way to go. Winchester Silvertips are also acceptable. Reciol with this gun is almost unbelievable-don't expect " two taps to the chest one to the head". But, I don't know many other guns of this size that offer nearly as much power.

1. For me, the pinky hangs off, unless I put an extension on the mag.
2. No, it came stock Glock plastic, but I had it reshaped to fit my hand (which I do for all Glocks).
3. Don't know. I tend to prefer a custom fiber optic to a night sight.
4. Can't recall, as I had the whole grip reduced.
5. The .40's are smaller, at least the ones I've held.

The G29 is a great carry gun, accurate, simple, not much on flash and sizzle. Kind of heavy and thick, though, for deep cover.

Well, I went out and bought a gun. Went to the darkside on my purchase. :uhoh:

Time to get to know it better on the inside and post about it later tonight.

The 29 is a burly little brute, but wonderful. I just bought a new one with factory night sights for $595. Immediately put in a new KKM match barrel, Pearce mag extenders for the the pinky, LWD 3.5# connector, LWD Ultimate trigger stop, and the gun is complete. Love it. 100 flawless rounds so far in the KKM (never used the stock Glock barrel and probably never will.) The KKM gives full case support and runs with flawless reliability. No worries.

Burly little brute is right. That is why I passed on it at this time. It just doesn't fit me well at all. It reminded me of holding a baseball bat halfway up. On top of buying the gun, then a barrel, magazine extensions, rubber grips, I had to walk away. The next counter down had a S&W MP40 for $499 minus another $15 for taking so long to get there. lol Sorry guys, I went to the dark side.

Come on Glock - Do something with your grips...... and barrels for that matter!

The Pearce grip extender makes a big difference IMO.

I have handled the M&P. It seems very impressive. Let's hope that after three tries S&W has finally really gotten it right? :banghead:

don't expect " two taps to the chest one to the head".

I sure don't see why not. I can easily control the G29 with Federal 180gr Hydra-Shoks, and the Winchester 175gr SilverTips weren't much more.
